Just got AFC , but now car won't start...UPDATE#2 car fires up on first try!!

Well I was happy saturday night. Got an S-afc for my civic to go with my 450's. I was really happy I finally got that, because the FMU was crap, it made the car run like ----. Anyhow here's the problem. Before I installed the afc and 450 I wanted to make sure the car started with no problems, It has not been driven in about a month. Last time I drove it, I was messing with the timing and did not tighten the distributor bolt, only one aligns, good, so while i was driving the car turned off, after cranking it a few times I opened the hood and saw the dizzy came out. I bolted it back in and the car has not started ever since. I don't know if my timing is now all messed up and that's why it doesn't start, but the funny thing is that now when I try to start it all I can hear is a spark, like it's sparking somewhere in the engine, but the starter doesn't move or anything else happens. The battery is good, new, and charged up. The starter is new also. I have no clue where to start here. I'm pretty sure my timing is all messed up, but I would think the car will still crank or starter move even if it doesn't turn on, right?

I waited this long to get everything and I have to deal with another problem now. I'm pissed >:( >:( >:(
Any ideas???????????????

check the dist and inside it. I bet you messed it up by having it "pop" out while you're driving.

inside, you mean check the rotor and if it looks burned or something?

The distributor goes in only one way right? I thought the clicking sound I hear might be the rotor sparking around, but because it's out of time, it doesn't crank, I don't know.

Since your distributor pop out and you didnt hav any idea on the firing order you could of have the distributor 180 degree backward. Did you try aligning everything to tdc from the crankshaft pulley. And when that's done with install the distributor so the rotor is pointing to the number one spark plug. do that and let us know how it turns out.

for some reason i've never been able to get a dizy to go in backward.. i thought they only go in one way??

They do only go in one way.

Check all of ur fuses and get another distributor man, itll save u the headache, u can always sell it if that doesnt work. I think your dizzy timing is the problem though... if it is cranking.. if its not maybe u have a loose wire from when it fell.. Any wires soldered there?

It only goes in one way, I tried, but now way. I found out, the not cranking or doing anything was caused by bad ground. I moved the battery to the trunk and it worked fine for a few months, now for some reason, it doesn't. I got to check the ground connections around the engine. I grounded the engine from the battery to the engine, NOW IT CRANKS, but it still won't start. My spark plugs are filled with gas, yes gas not water. I have spark and gas, I was messing with the timing and my brother helped me out a bit. I took out the cap as recommended before, and I saw I had metal shavings on the cap, from the little posts or contacts on the cap. The rotor is really loose, even if I tighten the screw all the way in. So I bought a new cap and rotor last night to put in today. Also now I'm not sure if I have the plug wires connected correctly, we messed with those so much, moving them around, that I have no clue if they are in there right or not.

I took out the FMU and check valves, and disconnected the upper charge pipe, so I'm again N/A to get the car to start. Once I find what it is, and it starts, AFC and 450's go in and I boost again.

Thanks for reading this long post ;), and thanks for replying

Re:Just got AFC , but now car won't start....UPDATE!!!!!!

I had problems forever with stuff like that. I found out that it was the connection on my battery. It was all corroded and loose. My brake light would come on and it would die at intersections while idling. And alot of other stuff. My #14 fuse would always blow to. Check everything that would seem easy like a high school prom date. Check that. It is worth a shot.

I've been sick all ------- week, have not gone to wrk since wednesday, and have not eaten anything but soup and gatorade for a few days also. I hate this ----, today I feel stronger, but still shitty. I will check all that stuff again and put in the new rotor and cap and see what happens. This sucks, I have my 450's and afc waiting, but can't get up from bed.
Thanks for the ideas

So get that new cap and rotor in, make sure u take ur plugs out and air them out or get some new ones... cuz i had problems with my car starting when i drowned my plugs, so i went and got some new ones and took care of the problem.

hmmmm u know what. the thing on the bottom of the distributor. the ---- that slides into the cam. dont know what the ---- its called. but it could be fucked up. because that happened to my cousins crx and it wouldnt fire anymore. cause the distributor fell off. and i dont know. but change that lil bottom peice and it might just do the job. i hope that helps

yes they do go in one way. :P But if you set everything to tdc, cam pulley align to all the marks, and the crankpulley is align to the mark. If you pull the distributor cap out and the rotor isnt pointing to the #1 spark plug then its 180 degrees off. Lets say it was pointing to the #4. spark plug. thens its 180 degree off also. I've done this twice because i pulled out the distributor. I set everything up to tdc, but forgot to pull out the cap to see where the rotor was pointing to. It was actual pointing to #4 and never started up. So i set everything back to tdc pulled the distributor back out and realign the rotor so it was pointing toward the #1 spark plug, then it started right up.

so the only way to know if your 180 degree off is set eveything up to tdc, pull out the cap, and check your rotors to see if they are pointing to the #1 spark plug.

Re:Just got AFC , but now car won't start....UPDATE!!!!!!

That what I thought. I have another thread about setting it to TDC, I read a few sites on how to do it, hopefully I can go ahead and do it this weekend.

Let see If I get this right. I'm planning on taking the dizzy out, turn the crank pully until cyl one is all the way up, check the markings on the pulley and cam gear to make sure they are both at tdc, if not fix it, then put the dizzy back in and take the cap off check if it is pointing at one, if not rotate 180, try to start it.

Right???

Re:Just got AFC , but now car won't start...UPDATE#2 car fires up on first try!!

Ok, I got some time, finally to put in the new rotor and cap and checked the wires firing order, fixed the wires correctly. Before I did anything about checking for TDC, I just thought, why don't a try to rotate the rotor or spindle thingy 180degrees and try to start it. Well it fired up the first try, and right away, idleing alittle rough, it's still out of time but working. I was happy, thanks for the help. I thought I tried that before, but maybe it was the new cap and rotor that made it worked. Either way I'm happy thanks again. ;D ;D ;D
