JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

Can it be done? What parts do I need to put in? I want this done for the highway. Simple as that. 1-4 gears I'm fine with, but I want that 5th cruising gear. The ZC tranny with the si 5th gear looks like this:

60mph - 2658rpm
90mph - 3987rpm
120mph - 5317rpm
150mph - 6646rpm

So one might ask... how does the si 5th gear extend the ZC tranny so far? Because of the ZC's final drive. This is exactly what I'm looking to do, but I just don't know what it takes to change the "5th gear"... what is required? I already have a spare si transmission for the disection.

you could use the DX/Si 5th gear, or the 92-00 .702 5th, or the .694 HF 5th, all will fit right in.

You need both gears (a set) for 5th gear.

Does the JDM ZC tranny case resemble the USDM ZC case or the usual D-series case???

Re:JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

there is no USDM ZC case.

Is not the d16a1 in the first gen Integra a USDM version of the ZC, the only difference is the cams...

Your talking engines, we are talking trannys.

HE'd be best to swap the Si FD and the .702 5th, depending on his setup. If boosting and keeping the close ratio ZC gearing, it would be easier to stay with the ZC/DX 3.889 FD.

Re:JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

I'm perfectly happy with the ZC tranny EXCEPT for that 5th gear. You have to understand that ALL I want to do is extend the 5th gear. So my real question is will it work?.. That is, swapping the si 5th into the ZC tranny.

Mista Bone, I remember you from the CRX Perf forum... you would know. How big of a project will it be?

EDIT: --
I found this quote:

The nice thing about the ZC is the transmission. It is geared much lower then the transmission used for the D16 in the US. However, many people in the US do not like this transmission because they are turning so many RPM's on the highway at speed. However, it is a simple procedure to swap the 5th gear from the ZC transmission with 5th gear from the transmission that came with the D16 in the CRX. That will get you the low gearing and performance off the line and out of the corners that you gain with the ZC transmission but allow you to turn lower RPMs at highway speed.

Well, since there is no USDM ZC case, then how can it be the same if there is nothing to compare it with??????

What case are you ------- with?

I believe the d16a1 (87-89 teg) case is different then all other D-series.

Re:JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

So, what clutch will I need to use with the ZC transmission? Is it the 86-89 Integra? I'm also a 'little' confused with the axel swap. I know I need two passenger side axels from a 89-91 civic/crx, the intermediate shaft, and integra caps/cups, correct?

Re:JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

Zc transmissions use the same clutch as the Dseries ones. Jus make sure you get the right clutch for the corresponding year of the tranny and flywheel. :)

Sorry I can't help you too much with the axles graham, good luck tho.

yeah, you can use the two pass. side crx axles and change the inner joints two integra ones. or you can use two 90-93 integra axles, but then just take out the dust shield on the inner side of the hub.

You have to have the jdm zc intermediate shaft though.

Re:JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

To do this 5th gear swap, how far into the tranny will I need to go? Will I need to remove the transaxel from the tranny and dig right in, or will I need to remove just the end cover to access the 5th gear? Do I simply exhange the 5th gear (only) from the countershaft, or will I need to change something on the mainshaft as well? What about pins or rings? I really don't know.

Re:JDM ZC Tranny with SI 5th gear

complete tear down, and you need both 5th gear pieces.
