JDM D15 VTEC??

Hey Guys im new to your forum i was reccomened here from HHU. I have a 93 civic hatchback and when i think about it i miht just build a SOHC VTEC motor for boost. i wana hit 12's and i here its possible. I was wondering is the JDM D15 Vtec motor the same is the D16z6? Or can i interchange the parts??? Let me no cause im soon to purchase a new motor for my civic. it already has a mini me on it but its not running cause i need timing belt tensioner on it and its leaking anti freeze from somwhere. plus i wana build the motor before i put it in so i wana no D15 or D16 Vtec motors?? Thanks ???

You want to run 12's? Are you prepared for that?

You can change and swap almost anything from those two motors(and most all SOHC for that matter). If you plan on running some serious hp, I would stick with the 1.6(D16Z6, D16Y8, D16A6<<<non-VTEC block).

Junkyard, Egay, Forums,....all over the place. Do you need the whole motor, tranny, ecu or just a block or block and head or what?

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

Well ima going to need complete i guess cause ill end up buying the tranny for better ratio and ecu so i can wire the vtec unless i get a VAFC.

Don't mean to jack the thread but does the JDM d15 also use a p28 like the d16z6.

I believe it uses a P08.

Here is the deal with the jdm d15b

its the "perfect mini-me". It has a very similar bottom to the VX expect it has stronger rods and a z6 pistons. It can run on a p28 all day long. I've had mine turbo since I installed the motor, never a problem. its JDM y0.

Get a z6/y8/a6 They have the strongest rods.

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

i thought a p28 was from a b16 civic

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

jdm d15b has longer rods than usdm d15b but shorter than d16s.

Oh ya and have fun trying to find aftermarket rods for that.

I tried and i found out that building a new d16 block with my d15bvtec head was the best idea.

So if ur gonna boost with more than 11psi like me stick with the d16s and the widely available internals.
Thank you, Have a nice day :)

BTW d15bVTEC has a P08 head

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

Well thing is i already did the mini me with a d15 bottum end and a y8 head this winter another thing is i was hearind i need to run a oil tap or osmething like that?? And waht ECU should i use to engage my Vtec or just buy a VAFC?

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

The d15bvtec uses the same pistons as the z6? Are you 100%? I'm gonna be building up a d15b and picking up the head for 150 and the block for 50 cause it needs a piston and wasn't sure what they were? He had a z6 block left over and said I could have that for free so if thats true I just swap over slugs.

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

d16z6 and JDM D15B heads are identical. P08 casting.

stillnoturbo 02-11-2004 07:32 AM

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

Same casting for the two heads but the d15 head has a more aggressive cam and the p08 ecu is used with jdm head to better use the cam than to use the p28 with it and the p08 uses a single wire O2 sensor I believe over the 4 wire p28 ecu.

Re:JDM D15 VTEC??

my jdm d15vtec came with a five wire 02 and the p08 ecu. I just put a 4 wire in and use a p28 that my friend burns chips for me. So if anyone has any ecu needs, putting in a socket or burning let me know.
