Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

Lets try this again. Maybe somebody can figure it out this time...
obd2 b16 jdm engine in a 94lx
ecu works in other cars
no codes
car cranks and maybe spits after 15 turns
car only starts up quick when forced into limp mode
map/tps are setup properly
using a homemade dizzy conversion harness following h-t specs
using an obd2 alternator so I changed the plug also
210 compression
:'(

To me I would look at these two easy things:

1. Grounds

2. Main Relay (They can go bad whenever they please and especially when cars sit for some reason.)

Possability of mixed up wires on dizzy? Wait a minute...are you running obd1 or obd2 ecu? Also what engine harness are you using on this? Are you running the crank sensor off the oil pump or off an obd1 dizzy? I'll stop now, I'm getting confused...it's too late for this :P

atleast yours will fire a little..........

How did you force it into limp mode?

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

I force it into limp mode by jumping j1 and removing the chip.
---- EFI, I think Ill buy myself an old malibu and rock the 100hp 350 :l

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

ok....we have all the time in the world....lets start slow!

What ecu? Wiring an obd2 connector to obd1 on the dist is easy. All it is...is one big plug instead of 2 smaller ones. Everything should be a piece of cake. Make sure the wires are matching.

Of course...make sure fuel pump primes up.

If you think you have a bad ground...(I see more ppl forgetting the tranny one), and your car turns sometimes...and not others......try it in a darker room. Most of the time...if the ground catches...and the car turns over a bit...it'll spark. Then you'll locate the ground.

Make sure your fuses are not blown! :y

Timing correct?

Don't mix the tps and map plugs!

Let us know what you find! :S

Plan is to redo everything
replace wiring harness of entire car
open up the engine(I believe its eating up my water cuz the water level keeps dropping even inside the radiator)
probably resurface head and block
I hope the damn cylinder head is fine without any cracks

Hey Ravage turn your motor until #1 is at tdc and take off your distributor cap and see if your on rotor button is on #1
I think all it is, is that you have the distributor in the cam keyway 180 out.

180 off will not seat right. Unless you forced the thing on. But it still won't seat flat.

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

Thats what I thought to. Until I tuned a turbo delsol last week and the only way the distributor would go in was 180 out. We just rearanged the plug wires and put it in time. the kids driving it like thar right now. By far one of the stranger things Ive seen in awhile.

dizzy lines up
It seems like an electrical problem but I bet there is more to it. Gonna strip the block and head and see what I find

Do compression test first man! No need totear it down yet. Pullthe plugsplug them backintothe wires and have someone crank the engine watch the plugs and the firing order. Then go from there

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

I had trouble changing my dist to obd1 despite what the diagrams said about color coded wires... Best way to be 100% sure is to check continuity from each wire on the dist harness to each pin on the ecu

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

why are you suspecting damage in the motor just the water leak?

I say compression/leakdown before you start the hard work

Timing? Crank/Cam timing?

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

uh, bad idea to pull a motor w/o any conclusive evidence that theres something mechanically wrong. if your compressions 210 across the board, than you probably dont have a cracked head or blown hg. do a leakdown test to be sure, you will hear the pressure leak into the coolant and bubble out he rad cap if its a leak in the cylinders.

sounds to me like your dizzy might be wired wrong or just bad. also, main relay, grounds and clogged fuel system are some other possibilitys

have you actually pulled the plug wires and determined if your getting fire at all?

has the car ever ran after you did all this work to it? or did it run for a while and take a dump?. double check for the ground on the t-stat houseing, alot of people miss this one and its vital for the injection system.

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

not to add my stupidity to the equation but did you make sure the rotor screw is in the dizzy shaft . iv had 2 cars do it to me now.:1 the car sound like its trying to start and gives a fire every couple of turns.Try checking the plugs on the block and see if there getting spark hope that helps.

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

car hasnt ran since I swapped in the new b16
I get increadibly strong blue spark.
I will change the wire harness today.
What bothers me is that the water disappears. Gonna have to pull the head I guarantee it but well start with the wires.

Re: Its been 5 weeks since my car has ran correctly, wtf!

i had the same problem kind of and it was my dizzy wiring but i went from obd0 to obd1. if i were u i would first
1. start with a compression test
2.check if your getting spark
3. check for fuel
then go from there and double check wires becuase if your getting fuel, compression and spark i gaurantee that ur firing spark at the wrong times.

is it getting fuel?

Thanks to all that replied and tried to help!
I changed the dizzy and it fired up in 2 seconds.
This engine is pretty fucken healthy and the 4.9ls tranny makes me smile.
Time for a new hg to fix the water problem and we are ready for some snails
