Default Installing rod bolts!!!

I was wondering if I could install ARP rods bolts in my B18A without pulling the motor. I know Ill have to pull the pan and all that but I dont want to pull the engine. Just wondering if I can install them from underneath the car. Thanks in advance

really because one guy was saying that he had just done his by pulling the pan and pulling one out at a time and putting the new one in then measuring the bolt stretch, but he didnt elaborate much

you can do it that way but because your going to TQ the bolts to a higher tq value the clearance on the rod journal "might" change. if you REALLY dont want to pull the rods at least plastiguage the rod bearings to make sure its ok before you reassemble.

do you not want to do it the right way because you dont want to pull the head? you might want to ask yourself why your installing the rod bolts in the first place. really think about that one.

I have done it a few times in the car. Just get a rubber hammer and knock the old ones out.. Then put the new ones in and draw them up snug with the arp lube and the nut. After that do the torque seqence.. ( I think you torque it to **ft lbs 3 times. )

it gets toqued to a higher value than stock rod bolts though. thats why it can change the bearing clearance.

I know, I was just saying it can be done and that I have done it.

It "can" change the clearances. but i highly doubt it does enough to make a difference. its like 6 pounds different right? i cant remember off the top of my head. its been awhile since i have used stock rods.. well LS rods anyways.

it's not just the torque value, but the caps can become offset by using the different bolts.

The big end needs resized. If not done, you can burn up the rod bearings, which will destroy yhe rods and rod bolts from the heat, along with wiping out the cranks also.

Basically, you can ---- UP YOUR WHOLE GODDAMN MOTOR..........and when you do, we are gonna laugh at you.....

ALOT!

with the amount riding on the rod bolts i always wonder why this question gets brought up so much. i mena people think there doing a service to their motor by installing better bolts, but whats better stock bolts installed correctly or arp bolts that are probably installed good enough.
