installing LSD

I bought a Lsd(not a phantom grip!) for my b16a transmission, and I would like to know what seal will I need to purchase to install it properly. THANK YOU!

Re:installing LSD

what seal?...its a good idea to change your axle seals

Re:installing LSD

I was thinking input and out seals, bearing seals, axle seals, but I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure there will be damaged seals from dissasembling the diff. just want to make sure I get everything right so when I get back, the only thing I have to do is put it together.

i dont see how dissasembling the diff will damage any seals, there are none that ive ever heard of

ok thanks! just want to make sure I dont need anything extra.

Re:installing LSD

make sure you order diferential bearings and extra shims, cuz you will need them to do the install right. Shims come in different sizes, so you can order diff. sizes or you can wait unill you install the lsd and measure the gap and then order the size you need. But if you do that you will have to wait for the shims to show up, cuz they never have them in stock. Well that was my experience. Good luck. 98ctr

shim #11, bearings #17 2ea. don't forget

PS: If you order the bearings, order the Type R bearing. and shims. ie: 1.0/1.25/1.5

Hey make sure you do a nice write I'd like to see it done.

I followed that one link and I was reading the break in paragraph and thinking to myself, either 1) I'm going to have so much fun that I'll literally pop my wheels off, 2) I'll get so dizzy that I'll puke after 30mins of doing the figure 8 or 3) some bitch@$$ cop is going to pull my sorry ass over in the parking lot

Do this for 30 mins!

---- that figure 8 ---- for 30 minutes haha. I'm glad I got a Quaife LSD. Jeff did a big fatty burnout to break mine in lol. ;D

Re:installing LSD

That figure 8 bullshit is only for clutch type LSD's (KAAZ) which IMO are inferior to a Quaife which is by far the best LSD out there

Because it's not. :P That's like the "AFC hack" of LSD. It works, but it's damn sure not the best.

Re:installing LSD

the lsd I got is a torsen from a civic type R/sir, will I still have to do that figure 8 ---- to break it in? or since its a factory part it should install and drive...

98ctr 05-03-2004 07:08 PM

Re:installing LSD

no you do not. Only if its a brand new LSD then you have to brake it in. If its used then it should be broken in from the factory. 98ctr

started the install today, and I am stuck. I did all kind of research and none of these are thorough. I need to know if I need to pressed the lsd into the housing to get it to seat correctly?

I've heard that this must be done. \How long do you do the fiqure 8 for? And is it need for an obx lsd?

civicvtecb16a 04-15-2005 12:33 PM

Re: installing LSD

does the sir lsd even fit into a normal box? I heard something somewhere about the box needing machining to allow the lsd to seat properly :-\

rudebwoy 04-16-2005 01:59 PM

Re: installing LSD

you have to grind off the webbing on the inside of the transmission where the lsd sits

thats a gear locker, you only need to break in clutch type lockers.

Re: installing LSD

Dang it where the heck is the write up y0! I am still planning on doing this... Probably gonna get myself the OBX LSD... we'll see... sh!t

Bone1 04-17-2005 04:17 AM

Re: installing LSD

Here's a write-up

Get OBX and needed parts

lay on new speedo gear, press on new bearings.

Rip apart the tranny, swap the diffs.

Check shim clearance, adjust as needed.

Replace ISB.

Put tranny back together, install into the car.

When on doubt, follow the Helms.

Parts needed..........

Thanks for the help Mista Bone. You are still indeed the tranny guru.

I remember reading I need a gear pressor or something to put the speedo gear on... anyone want to shed some light on this?
