Idle Miss fire.
 
Ok.. missfire at idle.. rpm's drop then jump up.. it's like mmmm mmmm mmm pop mmmm mmm.. car is NA 100% stock fuel/ign. has gude cam, i/h/e.

I read somewhere that it could be low compression in 1 or more cyl's. Car has had oil change religiously by me and the prev owner, castrol syntec 10w30 only. I hear a fairly loud ticking in the valve cover at idle, which tells me the valve clearences are too large. secondly, my hydro carbons are through the roof during emmisions testing.

The conclusion im coming to is that i have 1 or more exhaust valves so loose they dont want to seal correctly, causing 1. low compression in the cyl. 2. lets the a/f escape with out getting ignited hense raising my HC at idle. 3. i dunno. no #3.

GENERALthoughts?

dude, just adjust your valves then, or at least check them, it's really simple, all you need is a feeler gauge and valve cover gasket which is only a couple of bucks, i thought it would be tough, but i helped my boy do it on his accord and it was simple.

oh wait! something just occured to me! Valve clearence wouldn't have any effect of how loose the valves are on their seats would it? I mean, you adjust the rocker on the top of the valve.. it's the valve spring that holds it tight to the seat right?

Your valve lash wouldn't have anything to do with your idle if they're a little loose. Run a compression test or a leak down, and see what comes up. I had 2 bent exhaust valves in mine, and it ran rough, but it also ran pretty well too, so much that i didn't think twice to check for that. Also might wanna check your plugs, wires, rotor, cap, etc...and don't forget to check your plug gap.
