I want to know what I have to do....how do i weld it? I heard about welding a plate in between or sumthing....help a nigga out |
Re:How to weld the Diff
you weld the spider gears to the shaft going down the middle. Don't let people talk you out of it, we just did an MX3 and its not all that bad.

Uh oh! :o Somebody needs more traction! :P
Never done it, but from what I have heard from the people who have, it sucks. :-\ I wouldn't mind doing it, but I doubt my POS welder could lay a good enough bead to hold them together. :-\ __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:How to weld the Diff
I welded the diff in my old 92 Talon TSi (fwd) .. worst mistake I ever made. then again I think being basically limited to a straight line is weaksauce :D

Re:How to weld the Diff
I was thinking of doing it but heard it's not good for auto-xing.

Re:How to weld the Diff
you dont weld the pin,
you weld the spiders together, 8 spots total 4 on 1 side, and 4 on the other. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/weld.jpg Btw, its ------- horrible for daily driving, its so hard on the tranny and axles. |
Re:How to weld the Diff
if you welded the pin to the two gears it touches it would do the same thing in theory

Re:How to weld the Diff
Trust me...unless u wanna go only in a straight line, don't weld it. I did one for a friend of mine with an 89 hatch...we trailered the car to the track, ran a few passes no prob...then he broke his passenger side axle tryin to turn the car around. If you're drivin the car every day, don't even bother. Just save the money from all the broken stuff it would cause, and buy a the real deal.

Re:How to weld the Diff
its very hard on the drive train but its kinda fun draws atteintion when you turn in a parking lot and your tires chirp in low speed turns. as far as being limited to a straight line i found that my crx was a bit better at making turns after i welded the diff

Re:How to weld the Diff
First: The metal must be hospital clean. Then you must choose what resource you have, i.e. what type of machine you'll use. I'd recomend TIG welding, cleaner and won't hide porosity. Fire up the machine, weld it up. DO NOT COOL THE METAL WITH OIL,WATER, OR ANYTHING. It will harden it. This is bad. If you don't know how to weld get a book or pay someone to do it. Oh yea get ready for broken parts.
