how much for the average b-series tranny rebuild?

my LS trans almost always grinds 3rd unless i really message it into gear at lower rpms, and ive noticed oddly after i fixed a bent top trans mount my 4th and 5th grind very little once and a while too, i've actually considerd selling the whole swap and going d-series again, i miss the cheap and simple sohc :(

my dads friend works at a tranny shop but he doesnt do a whole lot of jap trans rebuilds and he will give me a fair price on labor but he couldnt really say on parts, can anyone give me a ballpark guesstimate?

pisses me off i have people almost giving away d series ex trans like there wasting space

I've seen a few places on HT do it for around $700-800 where you send them your core, they send you back a rebuilt tranny with whatever ---- it needs.

Now that I finally own a civic, I realize how cheap D series ---- really is, so I can see your point there. Would probably be cheaper just to swap it back.

If it grinds just keep going till it is dead. Only trans worth rebuilding are b series hydro's

looks like they sttart at 225 on that site for 1-5 gearsets, seems sorta cheap, must be for d series. i figure if its more then like 500 for me to carry my trans in for a rebuild at my dads buddys shop i would just rather swap the whole ---- out for a d16 and sell off the swap

parts alone START at $400 for the 3-4 gearset, bearings, and seals

Then inspecting the 3-4 steel shifter fork, shift assembly for wear, then hope 5th gear isn't toast.

Yep.......it won't be cheap......but this tranny IS worth saving!!!!!!!!!

Damn...those prices don't make me feel too confident about getting my S1 rebuilt :l It's got some bad things goin' on...typical 4th gear grind, and you have to rev the motor to get the syncros lined up or some crap before you shift, otherwise it doesn't want to go in. Only does that when you've been driving for a while...cold when you first start driving still shifts smooth as butter. Weird. :P
