Default How to make the a6 rev!

d16a6 red line is 6800, fuel cut, 7000..

what is needed to safely rev to 7.5k ? other then the obviously chipped ecu?

I'm trying to get good "tech" going for this forum.

you need good rods. my rev limit is blueprinted to 10,500. the moter ran strong all the way to 10.5 and held and that was on a 1/4mile pass of 13.3. the second pass snapped the rod clear in half and spunn the bearing i wish i had taken pic's.

no im saying it ran strong at 10.5 but the whole engine was built for 200hp and the a6 rod snapped. so im going with the z6 rods and will buy some bigger ones later on and will just keep it under 10rpms

a6 isnt made to go up that high. even if the motor was "balanced" to go to 10.5k, its doesnt mean it CAN go to 10.5k. theres lots of other parts of the motor that comes into play here.
1- you'll need fuel all the way to 10.5 or where ever you want to rev to. Cheaply chipped ecu may raise the rev limit, but they dont exact the fuel and timing curve to that limit. trust me, i've seen lots of "im a dumbass" chips out there. just because the guy says its limit is to 10 dont mean you take it to 10.
2- the oil pump isnt made to give pressure to 10.5k. thats 1 reason people blow. oil gets loosed vescocity and breaks down the motor with heat and metal contact. and the oil jets, pump, and of course if you have vtec, lost motion assymbley isnt prepped to hit a 10.5k power band. it may last a few seconds in the 10's from miss shift but not for power searching.
3- most sohc never see 10k due to power limits. how many sohc have you seen making power at 10k rpm? mostlikely, none. most stop makin power at 8100. but people still take their car to 10 just cause they think they can and still make power. only the DYNO can prove that you do STILL make power there.
4- full aftermarket valve train is HIGHLY needed to rev. stock valves will last you bout 500-1000 above limits semi saftly but stronger units will be in need if you plan on uping the rev. springs may also last a little about stock but will also be needed. but be warned. too strong of a spring MAY cause "stock" valve damage and CAN shatter stock retainers due to streng from valve open and closing.
thats just my 2 cents
good luck

Yeah I mean 10,500 sounds like a heck of a lot of rpms. I just searched really quick on blueprinted motors since I really didn't know what it meant. Basically it said a blueprinted engine means they take the honda manual and measure everything up and if it says to make it .006 > .014 then they would make it .010 nothing more and nothing less. This insures precision and would reduce frictional losses, increasing compression and power out, and increasing durability and longevity. Usually when you have an engine built most places that just make sure it's somewhere inbetween those numbers instead of perfectly inbetween the numbers. They also said it would cost a shitload of money and of course you would need the rods, pistons, valvetrain, etc that can handle it.

EDIT: d16y7nh I just noticed your signature also and it looks pretty expensive.

The gude head has aftermarket valves and has been ported and has the gude cam. The long block was blueprinted put togther and balanced. The crank was balanced and micropolished. the crank says 10/10 on it, not really sure what it means but it has to do with the balance. the oil pump has been ported as stated in "the old one" article. the engine has been built to run up to 10.5rpm but that is the total redline. we ran the engine to the limit and spun the bearing. the confusion in the rev limit is that the 10.5 mark is the max rev limit not the normal rev point. And just to make things clear my d16y7 ran well into the 8,600rpms.

i know what your talking about but only dyno sheets can show you. i've done tons of sohc motors and MOST...not all but most dont make much power after 8100rpm. my b18c1 rite now goes to 10.5. i got all the skunk2 goodies(mani, valves, retainers, cams, etc)but when i dynoed the motor, it did 189whp and 228hp@ 8900. they took it all the way to 10.5 but it kinda flat lines up there. thats what i mean. my sohc( d16z6, zc pistons,rods,gudecam,portnpolishn3angle,twm maniw/ 44mm side draft mikunis,h,e,i etc) did a 164whp 182hp@ 8150rpm. the only reason left to rev that high is to compensate for the gear change. so the rpm's will stay a little higher...to be in power band area.
