I find that a ingersol-rand or snap-on 1/2" drive impact wrench usually does the trick.

You can also try a 1/2" breaker bar and a piece of pipe about 4' long. Be sure you chain the flywheel otherwise you'll just turn the motor.

---- that bolt. Have fun. Instead of removing that bolt, I tore the timing cover off. It takes about 5 minutes to change my belt now. ;D

Home depot rents compressors. Rent one, and hit it with a 3/4 drive impact.

I had to drive 30 miles away one time to uses his air tools to get my cv axle/hub bolt off, but I just took it off to day with my own 3/4 impact. Its great having your own air tools, but if you don't home depot has your back..

I got mine off with an old torque wrench and just put a thick screw driver in a hole and let it lean agains an edge of the engine. It took me a while but it got off.
Won't do it like that ever again though.
About the axle hub bolt, well I just took mine of today...I had past experience with my older car..notin' worked..and couldn't drive it to some place so I just picked up my cutting tool to cut metal and hacked away ... haha was fun though chopp the bolt off hehehe...wasn't goint to use the axle anyways...installed another one ;D

A couple tool companies sell an attachment to hold the crank in place like that moroso, but it's cheaper and uses a 1/2" drive to hold it. Here is a link:

Yea, Ive got one, bought it from a sk dealer for 49 bucks, that and a 1/2 inch breaker bar and your set. Usually unless you have a good sized compressor, and a really big impact(like 3/4 drive) your stuck. My snap on IM 500 wont usually take them off. (good sized 1/2 inch impact) so the best thing you can do is once you do get it off, use antisieze when you put it back together. Being a professional, I use the stuff on everything. spark plugs, bolts, nuts, and especially crank pully bolts.
