HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
SO after waiting on FAIL-EX to deliver my new Energy Suspension for 5 days after it being in the Indianapolise hub for weather related reasons, yet UPS is out and about all week long, I finally got them. I took all my front suspension off last night, and inner lower control busings on both sides were shot and looser than Spikers mom vagina. All ball joints were fucked. So after getting the kit in I went to compare where what goes where. Here is the question.....
Whats the best method of getting out the old busings? I heard of torching them"burning them out" but is there a better way? |
Re: HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
just burning wont do it cause the steel sleeve will still be in there. to get it out you either need a press or cut it and mangle it out. Either way it sucks.

Re: HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
heat the center and pull it out with vice grips, might need to twist. lube up a hacksaw blade & make two cuts through the rubber and metal outer sleeve about 90* apart. use a punch to remove the narrow section, and the big section will come out easy.
or use a press and get it done in 1/4 the time. |

burn out the rubber and hacksaw the sleeve
pops out like a horny monkey |
Re: HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
Press out the rubber, use a air chisel to remove the sleeves.
Bottle jack and a 2x3 channel frame + old Craptsman sockets. |
Re: HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
Thanks Bone and everyone for your help, but I ended up burning out the center and then using a die grinder to the inner sleeve in 2 areas and then with a screw driver and a hammer 2 taps and they fellout. Got the front CLA's almost done tonight"all 6 bushings", just got to press in the new ones. Then off to more areas to re do. Car should be hell of alot better this summer.

Re: HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
I know it's past the point...this is how I did it.
got one of those little green coleman BBQ propane cylinders (they are short and sit on a bench easier, and for $3 it's a good deal) put the part in the vice and let the torch just sit there and heat it up until it started expanding and bubbling out the ends. Drove out the old bushing with a socket Cut the sleeve with a saws all (in 2 places) and it basically fell out. Since then I got a press from Princess auto for $99 (the CDN harbour freight basically) made a huge difference in the EF. |
Re: HOW TO GET OUT OLD BUSINGS???????????
i heard if you put the new bushings in the freezer they are easier to press in. but thats just hear say and i dont know of any truth behind that
