how does EACV work?

Do you guys know how an EACV works? I know what it does which is determine what temp the coolant is and bypass air through the TB to ajdust idle speed, basically to warm up the car. But how does it work? Is there a wax involved? I remember when I took it off the IM, there was a spring. And my motor is a D16A6 if it matters. Thanks, Tom.

Re: how does EACV work?

When I start the motor up, it dies unless I rev it. I believe it's because I am not getting any air into the cylinders. I found this out when I decided to replace my pcv valve. I decided to start the motor with the pcv off and it's associated hoses disconnected and it stayed running with an idle at around 2100rpms, which is high. I can hear the intake sucking air in from the tube that connects the pcv and the IM. If I plug that tube, the motor dies. So my guess is that something is wrong with my EACV which is not allowing any air to come in during idle.

just take it off and block off the hole in the throttle body. you dont need it. if you still have the problem then back out the brass flat head screw on the TB till it runs right

I have read on here that this would cause my idle to jump up and down (is this correct?), I don't want to look like a douche at a stop light.

If your intake is dirty, and your IACV is shitty, and its a tuesday, and its raining horizontally, and JD isnt doing anything....then it might fluxuate a few hundered rpms.

if you unhook the coolant lines from it and thats all then your idle will jump, but if you remove it completely and block off the holes on the TB then you will be good unless like said above, only if its tuesday and raining sideways

Thanks, I will try that and see if it solves my problem!
