How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

I have an Si tranny(I think) and I need to know if there is a site or something that tells what numbers match what transmissions. I think I got scammed. :-\ It has similar numbers to my DX tranny. >:(

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

PL3/3000 cast into the casing just above the fill plug.
PL3/A000 or A100 denotes the smaller bearing HF, DX, STD tranny.

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

ok what the ----. i have a DX tranny laying in my garage and it has no cast marks, and 2 grooves on the main shaft.

no marks = 88
2 grooves = 90-91

wtf. and i highly doubt the mainshaft gear has been changed.

Sirex 05-31-2003 10:14 PM

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

my tranny is the same.. 2 groves.. no markings at all on it..
1st and 2nd gear are amazing.. 3rd 4th and 5th blow ass..

im thinking DX or STD

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

my car is like that, I blow through first and second then it takes me 2 minutes to get to 5000 rmps (90mph) in 3rd.

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

UPDATE: The guy swears up and down he pulled this tranny out of a VTEC Del Sol. Either the owner of the Sol did a mad crazy tite swap to a DX tranny y0, or that site is wrong. I can't see what my DX tranny says, but the new one says it is a DX with the same shitty ass gears I already have. I guess I am going to find out the hard way. :-[

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

the one that does 90 in 3rd sounds like the gay ass tranny in my 92 hb 1.5 vtec-e bitch goes forever in 2 and 3 gear...

Dr.Boost 06-05-2003 04:37 PM

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

Yeah, may gay ass tranny does 90+ in 3rd. :-\ When it was N/A it took like 30 minutes to reach the top of 3rd. I thought my motor was going to blow holding it for that long. :o

About the other tranny, it doesn't say PL3, it says P20 and right below it in the same circle it says A000. Does that mean anything? ???

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

OK, I have a 4th gen std... with enuff mods to be fun...
When I bought it, I got it from some dudes who were cool enough to tell me about the car... They said " yeah it had a 4 spd, but we didn't like a 4 spd on our lot, so we threw in a 5 spd." I was like cool, and they told me it was a LX tranny. Now I went to the Junkyard and picked up an "Si" tranny from the dude and it pulls the same as what I had. Fuel cut at like 75 in 3rd. I've got to check the numbers tomorrow, and figure out what's up, cuz either I had an Si tranny or I got a Dx tranny, and either way, they are both bad, so I need to go back and get another one... sucks

What speeds do your gears top at?

mine = 1st - ~35 2nd ~55 3rd ~75 4th 105+ (4 tickets haven't let me see above that yet..) 5th ~1xx?

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

According to my 91 si owners manual the maximum speed for 3rd gear in an si is 75, a dx is 90, and the hf is top speed. as for the a000, 3000, and booo dilema...
in 88-91 a000 is dx, a100 is hf, and 3000 is the si tranny. In a 92-95 a000 is dx/lx and the b000 is an si/ex tranny. all 88-91 have L3 on the case, and 92-95 trannies will have p20 or s20 on them.

Yep those dx trannys suck ass. I had one on my d16z and I could do 90mph on second gear at 7200 rpm. When I switched to the Si tranny I dropped a whole second on the quater mile 8)

actually my brother scribed that in there becuase i took an 88 Si tranny and swapped the input shaft with a 91 DX tranny so we wouldn't get them mixed up :D

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

Best thing to do is to count the teeth on the ring gear on the diff , then the counter shaft, then divide them.
You'll get the Final Drive ratio you need.

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

I swapped out an si tranny for a dx tranny, but when i went to put my cluct back on, the splines weren't right. When i asked someone, they told me that a dx tranny clutch won't fit the si. Try that out and see. Oh, and if you're pullin to 90 in 3rd, it usually is a dx box.

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

I went to the yard about a month ago, I found an 89 crx si complete. I did a ghetto pull to get the tranny, I was in a hurry. The car had about a 150,000 miles on it and I was happy to get out of there with it only after two prior attempts i had failed to get it.
When I got it home I took it into the garage, threw it up on the table and noticed some yellow paint marker scribble on it. Well to say the least I was crappin twinkies. I thought I had grabbed some swapped out refurbished dx tranny >:( I had to make sure I got the right tranny, so I took the case apart to verify I had an si tranny. Besides I found a broken 1-2 shifter fork. It pays to look further. ;)

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

All this makes me wonder now. I bought a 91 Si about a year ago from a second owner and never modified have all the maintance records. I dont see anywhere in the maintance about a new tranny. I swapped a dohc zc in it and i could do 90 in 3rd. My friend has a 89 si with a sohc zc and he says theres no way he could hit 90 in 3rd. Im pissed now. Time to go searching for an si tranny and see if its different.

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

Check those links I posted. Alot of people don't know the difference between them and end up selling them and buying them without knowing for sure. It pisses me off. I have talked to so many people that were selling them and asked them what numbers it had on it and ti turned out to be a DX tranny. ::) I have pissed some people off by doing this though, but ---- it. I'm not going to buy something that is not what I wanted and if someone is selling an "Si" tranny, I want to make sure they know for sure it is an SI tranny. Most of the time they aren't. :-\

Re:How do I tell the difference between a DX&Si tranny?

The d16a.com link doesn't work anymore. ???
I wish I knew what happened to it. Hell, I'd pay to keep it running. I like this link:
http://crx.honda-perf.org/math/index.html
This helps with the "...I was going 45mph in X gear..."
Just plug in the numbers.
I really miss the d16a.com site. That one gave the # of rotations on the mainshaft vs the diff, helps determine dx or si tranny b4 you install.
Heres another good one for a set rpm any 1-5 gears & any final drive calculator:
http://nonsense.netfirms.com/speed.html
Check it.

Just took my turbo civic to 5200rpms in 5th with a DX tranny, but since my speedo cable is broke I have no idea how fast I was moving, but damn it was pretty quick.
