how do fake LSDs work?

how do the phantom grip and twin trac work? could you not just put a piece of metal where they go and get the same job done?

they have springs...they push the two parts of it into the gears and put pressure on them. the less those gears spin independantly, the more evenly your wheels spin

so a welded diff forces them to spin in unison so there is no slip at all??

One of my friends and I decided to weld the diff in his Si tranny for the 1/4 mile...worked great at the track, but snapped an axle coming back home...i won't weld another one again.
