How can I make my fan come on earlier without it staying on?
Hell, if I could, I would like it to stay on until it cools the radiator, even when the engine is off.

Im assuming your talking about an electric fan??

Hook it directly to your battery, with an on/off switch in the car. That way it comes on when you want it too, and you turn it off. Just dont forget to turn it on while your driving, or forget to turn it off.. I dont think a fan draws that much current, but it could drain your battery after a LONG time.
I had hooked up a stereo this way a few years back. It was kinda nice, because while hanging out in the parking lot or wherever, you dont need the keys hangin out of your ignition to listen to some tunes.. just flip the damn switch!

They also make adjustable thermo switches that come on and stay on (depending on how you hook it up) until it reaches the set temp. They are kinda pricey though.

hook it up w/ a relay to the battery and one side of the relay to an ignition source that way it only comes on w/ the car.

similar question: does anyone know where the wires from the fan go? like into the ecu... My goal is to try to hook up the fan so i can disconnect power to it at the switch of a switch.

well a nice way to do it would be to get a switch with 3 positions, off and 2 ons.. or one which just had 2 on connections.

that way you could wire like this

fan
^
battery-->switch-->thermostat-->fan

that way you could choost to turn the fan on anytime you want, and you could also leave it in "normal mode" that way yo udont forget to turn it on.. that my problem, my celica.. i forget to turn it on sometimes llol

I have a thermoswith on mine ..........

you can pick them up at advance auto parts stores for about thirty bucks

You can set the temperature when you want the fans to come on manually
