How to add oil to my new y8 tranny? HELP!
Hey everyone I just swapped a y8 tranny on my car replacing the z6. I need to put oil in the tranny now and never have done it. I was wondering what is the best place to put the oil in it and easiest? I see there a sensor on top of the trannny that will unscrew with a 19mm and has a harness that hooks right were my 02 sensor hooks. can I poor the oil in this hole? also how much oil should I put in it? and last would gtx 10w 30 oil be ok to put in it? ok, for the noobie..........
remove the VSS unit, fill with 2 quarts of 10w30 engine oil or Pennzoil Synchromesh) Replace VSS and have fun. You need info on how to change the oil filter also? |

dude shut the ---- up about noob. Get off the computer and go work on your car computer geek. If I was a noob I dont think I would of just made my whole custom turbo kit, put my new clutch on and tranny. I was just wanting to make sure im doing it right before I go fuc up my whole setup. I dont have a haynes or anything. -Nick

does it not have the bolt on the side that drains the oil and then the bolt above that? I fill my tranny oil with that upper bolt. its either a 17mm or 19mm. You fill it up till it overflows then put the plug back in.

use the top side fill hole. get a funnell w/ a hose attached to it and fill that way. you don't want more oil than that level. if you overfill it it wall seep past your inputshaft bearing and soak your clutchdisk/flywheel. you don't want to do that. jiffy lube likes to fill it the otherway and screwed up a clutch of mine that way. >:(

I just did it on the side of the tranny. Was very very easy. Thanks for the help guys but to anyone I would just recommend doing on the 17mm plug on the side. I picked up a little thing from wal-mart that has a hose and funnel thing on it made it 100% easier and was only $2.95.

i can think of about 4 other forums if you had said that to mista bone you woulda been banned on the spot, watch your mouth little noob, just bc you can change a clutch dont mean ----. |

I just removed the reverse light sensor and filled it up there. It's really easy to get to. :)

I remember having to use the hand pump thing when Jeff installed my clutch... holy ---- my arms were hurting.

A 95 tranny uses just under 2 quarts and if you fill it from the side, it will leak out when you put in the proper amount. I've done it through the VSS once or twice, but for some ------- reason the damn things break on me shortly thereafter, so I've gone back to filling it from the side and leaving the VSS alone. :P
By the way, I guess the days of "judging" someone by their post count is over, huh? ;) Any pics on your filter comment bone? |

I think he shot himself in the foot well enough.
If he would have used the search function, he could have downloaded the factory manual, and read about it. I mean 380+ posts, and he can't change his tranny fluid? Yes, 92-95 trannys use 1.8 quarts for a oil service change, 1.9 if overhauled. I've always dumped in 2 quarts from the top and have never had a ISB failure nor oil leaking past the seal. But what do I know? ;D |
