honda/acura new improved MTF
i was at the local acura dealer today in my rust bucket integra lookin cool buying some manual trans fluid, guy at the counter says here ya go, its the new ----. i guess honda re-formulated there mtf recently the new stuff has a white cap/same silver color bottle label says new improved formula. and it kinda smells like coffee. he said they cant even use the old stuff anymore i dont know if they "recalled" it or what. paid $5.somthin a quart. $2 less/quart then honda chargers :8 i dont know how new this is but they didnt have it when i bought some this spring for my other car.
i will say shifts seem smoother then with the supertech 5w30 i had in there (and other random motor oil leftovers/atf, all i had on hand after axle replacement) |
Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
interesting to say the least, yet i dont even use honda gear lube. ive always used semi gear lube...........dont ask why, but a lot of the drag racers i talk too use it. ive never grinded a gear with it(unless i forget to use the clutch :1), though i do need to add some more since my last motor swap.........slight grind into third right now......wonder what it taste like :P i think everyone knows what i mean by that.....right :-\

Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
Ya, I used it, but the Syncromesh friction modified is amazing... 3rd gear grind GONE with its use in my tranny.
Im a believer, despite what people say about it not doing ----. It did do ---- for me... Good ----. 13-14 a qt, but money well spent, ---- its only like 2x the Honda stuff.... |

Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
why were you using 5w30 in the first place?
then your switching to a thinner oil????? Keep me in mind when you need bearings :) |
Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
i ran it for like 4 days cause i had to get to work and some came out when i replaced my axle, and the car is a beater anyways

Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
I think the part # is 08798-9031 if anyone cares.
Supposed to be good stuff, but everything ive heard about it seems to be honda's solution to the kseries tranny grinding issues so...... |
Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
I used it in a 245k mile VX tranny I have, and it seems to work great...no different than the blackish looking engine oil I drained out of it from the last owner... :3
How it lasted this long with that stuff in it, I really don't know. But this new fluid is a lot thinner than the last stuff from my side-to-side "shake the bottle" test comparing it to the few qts of the old Honda MTF stuff I had sitting around. |
Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
I picked some of this up yesterday from the dealer and noticed the bottle was different... Tranny swap tonight and we'll see how it goes :6

Re: honda/acura new improved MTF
its a "new" formula cuz the newer Honda MT cars need this more special ----... so they just superceded the numbers.
as for recalled? i dont think so... we still had a couple of the "old" ones kickin around here till a couple days ago. btw i sell the MTF for 7.98qt i think :-X still the best ---- your gonna find for a Honda MT... :y |
