HG question
 

Okay i finally dyno tuned my car on friday (it was only street tuned). It's a stock y8 with a .48/.60 60 trim, at 10 lbs (tuning by steve aka. tranceminister).

Only problem encountered is when i was driving it home i started overheating bad at idle and low speed around 20 mph. So i kept temps down with the heater and revin it up to circulate the coolant and got it home...

next morning started it up, white smoked like crazy so i figured HG. Did a compression test, got 90 frist puff and 180 last on all 4 cylinders (throttle closed, plugs out). Plus i let it idle and i couldn't get it to overheat. It's been running great and i only see a little white smoke when i rev it up to 3 or 4K (you can only see a little puff if you're behind the car).

So one of my instructors at NEIT suggested i retorque the head since i probably lifted it with all the pulls we did. My question is should i retorque it, or wait for it to get worse. I'm afraid of making it worse by retorquing it and then having to do a HG. Anyone ever retorqued it?

He said loosen each bolt in sequence 2 quarter turns, and then retorque per the manual.

I wouldn't loosen them to retorque them, just use the torque wrench to make sure they hadn't loosened up, set it to the proper setting and make sure they are tight, going in the same order as the factory manual...atleast thats what i think retourquing is...i would never loosen the head studs/bolts unless you were replacing the headgasket the could definately cause a new leak...are you using stock head bolts and oem gasket?

Your best bet is to use ARP studs and a new HG. If your HG was leaking your engine oil may look like a milkshake, and your coolant will not stay full. (white smoke from exhaust)
Also oil mixed in with the coolant.
To answer your q more directly, you can simply re-torque the head.

Well then it may be possible that the head is lifting under boost, just check the studs to make sure they are still tight and go from there, might want to concider some arp's soon though, I always put them in my motors with an OEM Honda HG for added security

yeah if i gotta do the gasket i'm gonna go that route, but like i said, i was wondering if i could just re torque them without ------- anything up. So we're going with, just hit them with the torque wrench in sequence then?

Yea just hit them with the torque wrench and amke sure they are tight still, don't loosen them just check to make sure they are stil at the correct torque, that won''t mess anything up....
