Help with y8 minime

im currently in the middle of a mini-me swap on a 99 civic DX. I put the y8 head on the y7 motor, reused the head gasket but sprayed that bitch down with copper spray real well. We also put a Crower Stage 1 cam in the car while the head was off. Well it was leakign a little bit of oil which ended up being the fact i left teh seal off that goes behind the cam pulley. But when we took the head off the oil in the head had a slight milky brownish color to it and smelled wierd almost like it had some sort of alcohol in it. I think its the head gasket but im not sure. Someone local to me has a y8 and said that the motor is really picky and that i should not even reuse the head bolts. Also what does a crower stage one cam sound like at idle cuz right now the cars idle surges like what sounds to be about 500 rpms but im not sure because it has no tach ::) any help would be appreciated oh and whoever the ---- at honda decided to make obd2a and obd2b is a retard

the funky oil color/smell is because the head gasket needs to be replaced, you never take a head off without replacing the gasket :1 and your idle problem is probably because the coolant was low so the iacv was freaking out causing idle surge....anyone who re uses a headgasket needs to learn a little more about working on cars before they just jump into it....

Re: Help with y8 minime

I've seen MLS headgaskets re-used before, but only if they were freshly put on with no mileage. Milky-brown is not a good color, like oil and coolant mixing. Did you at least change the oil and flush the coolant system out before starting it up? :P
P.S. coolant is made from alchahol...probably where your strange alchahol smell was coming from. Congratulations...you might've just wasted your bearings. ;)

well we put a new head gasket on it, flushed the coolant system again it still surges at idle tho i think its because with obd2 mini me swap you have to change the wiring for the iacv but i cant find out what wires i need to cahnge for an obd2b car only for an obd2a

3 wire to 2 wire iacv swap...forgot about that funky obd2 crap. Try a search on either here (I know I've seen it a few times) or on *shudder* Honda-tech.

Y8 headgasket is $22 from the dealer, nig nog, wtf were you thinking?

Block off IACV and set idle with throttle stop and air bleed screw. You can molest which two of the 3-wire IACV pins are connected to the IACV to get rid of the CEL 14, or just plug up the 3-wire and let it dangle if you still have it.

ha , yea it was either we wait 3 days for the head gasket to come in, pay the 178$ the dealership quoted us for a headgasket or try the old one, we went with the old one and got fucked and yea the code 14 is pissin me off

Dealer was on crack cocaine. Cost-to-public of an OEM Honda Y8 head gasket = $22.
