Help, vtec wont come on *merged w/ LS PUMP Q*
On my LS Vtec the vtec wont activate. I checked the soleniod and it clicks, I know the ecu is triggering it because I connected the wire for vtec to my fan and at 5k rpms the fan comes on. (using zdyne 1 wire vtec) Also I checked my oil level and it's perfect. I even ran a wire from the vtec solenoid in to the cabin and touched it to 12 volts while I was driving to see if it would come on but it didnt.
My LS Vtec oil feed is in right and everything, the vtec used to work before. |
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
ha, thats probably because your dyno was so low as well. Vtec just not engauging, take the solenoid off and make sure it's nice and clean, not all clogged up. Vtec circuit is pretty simple with the secu, 1 wire (12v trigger on)

Re:Help, vtec wont come on
what exhaust are you running? are you hearing any noticable change in the tone where vtec should engage?
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
Im running a 3" exhaust with a skunk2 muffler and I cant hear it at all, The car gets slow after 4500 rpms

Re:Help, vtec wont come on
If I am missing one of the bolts to the vtec oil rails would that cause it to not come on?
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
You loosing oil pressure somewhere in the head, pull the valve cover and have someone just crank over the car and see if you can see anything abnormal, like a leak blowing out. I've seen before if you dont put the dowl pin under the center cam cap holder it will leak by and will not activate vtec.

Re:Help, vtec wont come on
Alright, thanks I'll try tomorrow
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
I put a bolt in there where I was missing one, I also took the vtec solenoid off and the little filter was clogged with little copper shavings, so I cleaned it all out, thoroughly clean the whole solenoid and put it back on.
The vtec still doesnt come on. |
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
metal in the filter? ouch....
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
You did plug off the bottom of the head for the ls/vtec conversion right?
Metal shavings... ouch |
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
The head is plugged, it has been an LS Vtec motor for some time now. It used to work. Yeah the metal shavings are from when I had my old block when I spun a rod bearing, they're leftovers I guess.
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
maybe some of those metal shaving works there way into the oil passages for vtec?
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
Yeah, dude, That's what I was just thinking the other day. I'll try and take them off and clean them out and see what happens
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
Cleaned every passageway for vtec and it still doesnt work. Anything I am missing?
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
try taking out the whole vtec valve housing and clean it up?
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
Already did, checked eveyrhting possible and still nothing. Very weird!!
|
LS Oil Pump Good for Vtec?
On an LS Vtec motor is an LS oil pump good enough to activate the vtec? I mean does it push out enough pressure?
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
Get a new selonoid. It might be burnt out. Just take a 12 volts power and tough the wires to see if you can here anything clicking on. The the selonid doesn't click on then its broke. Find a new one.
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on
so you say you can trigger vtec w/ a 12v source?
maybe the vtec wire came loose @ the ecu. |
Re:LS Oil Pump Good for Vtec?
NO. lol that might be it!
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on *merged w/ LS PUMP Q*
Get a Vtec oil pump
|
Re:Help, vtec wont come on *merged w/ LS PUMP Q*
I have already checked the wiring coming from the ecu, I have checked the vtec sol. and it does click w/ 12 volts put to it, so I dont need a new solenoid.
I have tried activating the vtec by just giving it a positive 12 volts while driving with a button, and it still doesnt come on. |
Re:Help, vtec wont come on *merged w/ LS PUMP Q*
did you touched the head at all after you swap the block?...
may be you didn`t put those little pistons back in to the rocker arms?? :-X :o |
Re:Help, vtec wont come on *merged w/ LS PUMP Q*
Well I had to remove the cams, cam caps, and vtec rails in order to get to the head bolts, but I didnt touch anything else. What pins are you tlking about? How big are they?
