alright..i have a 92 civic cx hatch..it keeps over heating.
and i have no idea what it is..i replaced the head gasket, thermostat, and i checked the water pump..
my radiater fan looks like it isn't working..is there a fuse or anything?..or do i just need to replace the whole fan itself...plus my overflow bottle always overflows boiling out....let me know if yall have any clues

ok, so you replaced the head gasket. is the head warped, cracked or damaged? is there oil in your water or water in your oil?

with the overflow always being full (and probably running over) it sounds like you have combustion gases leaking into the cooling system. my crx was having a similar problem, very erratic temp readings, i pulled the rad cap off and started the car. whenever the car was at idle it was fine, but rev it up just a little and the leaking cylinder pressure would shoot antifreeze 3 ft in the air out the radiator neck.

when you got the head gasket where did you get it? if you got it from the dealer, make sure they gave you the one listed in the technical service bulletin regarding head gasket failure on the non-vtec motors. there are 2 gaskets available, one is the pressed together carboardlooking stuff with metal rings in it, and the other one (the one you want to get) is 4 layer metal.

hope this helps

wire your radiator fan to be on all the time and see if it helps.

Yes there is a fuse and did you check it? This happened to me at the track once. I wired the fan to be on all the time and nothing happened. I then checked the fuse and it was blown. I just replaced the fuse and it has worked ever since. That was the only time my car has ever overheated.

have your local honda dealer search the TSB database for "head gasket" it will come up with a page discussing the failure of nonvtec d series headgaskets from 88-95. it provides the part number of the correct head gasket, which is the 4 layer metal one. if your dealer's parts guy go and look up a head gasket for one of these motors it will give the part number for the old style one.

i work at a dealer and stumbled across this when my hg went out for no apparent reason. we ordered every d series hg for comparison and there were some differences between the y8 and the 4 layer's holes. for some reason the y8 had a 'restrictor' in the #1 water jacket.

all i know is I put the one in my car that the TSB recommended and haven't had any problems.

When you take off the fuse cover, it will tell you which one is which ::)
