Help!! D16y8 on a 4gen civic gone bad

Ok one of my friends just swapped a D16y8 into his 1990 4dr civic. He had an mpfi swap already and was working fine. With the new engine though the car turns on and it will let him rev up to 7,000 rpm's but as soon as he let's off the gas the ECU goes to limp mode, and won't let him rev past 3k.

I had a similar problem before and it was the egay chip, as soon as that was replaced the car ran fine, but he already tried 2 different known working ecu's and he gets the same result.

What else could it be?
It's a 1990 4dr DX, D16y8, he tried both y8 and a6 IM, a6 dizzy and pm6 ecu.
Thanks

have you thought to check codes to see what the ecu is angry about? :)

of course, but when that happens the CEL is constant and when you check the light on the ECU is just a constant red, no flashes, as soon as you turn off the car, and back on, the CEL disappears, until it goes to limp mode again.
If you keep the car on around 2k rpms it won't do that, but as soon as you let it go uneder that idleing, it happens again.

I'm not sure if he did or not, I would think so, after trying a different pm6

Yes he did, I just talked to him, The ECU he was using, both of them, where chipped but working in other cars, so he's on his way of picking up another ECU stock, to tested. He did not tell me yesterday the ECU's where chipped, this might be the problem, just like in my case.
I'll let you know what happens, just in case someone else happens the have the same problem, so we all know for sure the solution to it.

Pretty much, don't chip an ECU with an Egay chip, you might have problems.

Hey I knew that, but that dumbass didn't tell me yesterday.
As soon as he told me today, I was like, then you better get a virgin one and try again. ;)
