HELP!!! - Connecting Rod Bearings
 

I did a search but had no success. I need a set of rod bearings for a 1994 Civic EX, 1.6LT, SOHC VTEC. The crank is stock measurement. I need a part number? I am installing some aftermarket SCAT H-Beam Rods.

I was told the rod bearings are color coded. A guy at a Honda Dealership said I can use the "green" ones with no problem. I thought the clearance varies with each one. Is this guy telling the truth? If this is bullshit, what should I do?

all the bearings on rod is the same I believe. I got my bearings from machine shop. works fine no problems. There are notches on the bearings that line up when installing. make sure you dip it in oil b4 install

uh, I don't think all rod bearing tolerances are the same. Take your new rods and torque the rod caps onto the rods with no bearings or anything in them. Get a precise measurement of the diameter that is left (where the bearings and crank will go when everything is installed.) Write that number down.
Now get your crankshaft out, and find the crankshaft throw where that rod will sit. Take a precise measurement of the diameter of that crank throw. Write that number down. Now subtract the crank diameter from the rod diameter, and you will be left with the amount of space between your crank and rod when installed. This will give you an idea of how thick of bearings you will need. For the clearances, .013-.016 is a good clearance to shoot for. This is usually best done at a machine shop (with the precision measuring) but I guess if you had the right tools you could figure out what size bearings you'd need.
And if you dip your bearings in oil before you install them, it's gauranteed one will spin. The right way to do it is to clean the back of the bearings with a lint-proof paper towel, clean the surfaces where the bearing is going to sit, put the bearings in (dry and clean) and then apply assembly lube or oil to the side of the bearing that is going to touch the crankshaft. The only side of the bearing that should have oil is the side that touches the crankshaft.

that'll work too! LoL man I did my rebuilt in basement and jsut slapped it all together using plastigage and all the clearenceses were within specs, so I just slaped it together..
