Heli-Coil Insert Stacking

I just realized today that my drivers side engine mount is totally stripped. I was putting my block together and the threads just literally fell out, leaving a perfectly round hole in the block. I want to heli-coil the hole but I was wondering if you could stack the inserts, because it seems that for a m10x1.25, they only have 10mm and 15mm inserts. I dont think they'll be deep enough. Anyone stack them with success??

My dad's a machinist and he always tells me that as long as the thread grabs a 1/4 of the overall diameter of the bolt it will be at full strength. So I wouldn't worry about it, the bolt holes for the trans I bought were all stripped so I helicoiled it the actual thread replacement is only an inch long but it hold fine.

Re: Heli-Coil Insert Stacking

Cool, thanks for the help, I was a little nervous being that they were for a motor mount and all but there are three bolts holding it on. My brother (a mechanic) actually said that the heli-coils are stronger than the factory threaded holes. It just sucks that the kits are so expensive. We went to his work where they use time-serts (similar to heli-coils) but they didn't have 10x1.25, just 10.5.

That definitely crossed my mind.

Re: Heli-Coil Insert Stacking

I would just retap the hole and use a bigger bolt. No need to over complicate anything.

Re: Heli-Coil Insert Stacking

Well, If used an oversize bolt, then I am going to have to find grade 8 or better bolts in the new size, so I just said the hell with it and bought the heli-coil kit from Amazon.com. I had a bunch of free gift certificates from whoring online casinos so it didn't cost me anything.
