heli-coil

Default heli-coil

well i used heli-coil in the two head stud holes that where stripped out in my b18b1 block. crossing my fingers! bought a swap on e-bay from an individual. be aware when buying from an individual this swap had all kind of problems

I read to use 2 helicoils on top of each other for that....it should work fine though if you used head studs.

i only used 1 in each hole and they felt tight as hell. i will find out in the next couple of days how it is.

It should work, but they mensioned two heli-coils, because the actual thread in the block is almost twice as long as one heli-coil...

Yeah, i tried to helicoil my block, was gonna do 4 holes, got one in, went to do another hole, and i just couldnt get the heli coil to thread in, it would stop at teh top, pissed me the hell off, now im waiting for another block to arrive. Dammit!

You need to bore and tap the hole first

most heli-coil sets should come with a tap and the store where you buy it should be able to look up the correct drill bit size. hope fully you will be able to fix your block at hand and build it for a spare.

Let me get this right... you have stripped threads in your B series block where the head bolts go into?

yes, i had two stud holes with stripped out holes(the threads pulled out) i live in a pathetic casino ridden town where good used parts are not that commom. the heli-coil seemed to work pretty damn good. i torqued the head bolts to 60 ft lbs. and they held with no problem!
