Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
Ok, any of you honda guys, i have a VX motor, and am swapping the head with a Y8. D15z1 block, and d16y8 head
Ok, i need to know which timing belt to get and headgasket?? Is there a better one to get?? Im thinking maybe the 3 layer ex ones? Should i get a thicker one, or stay with OEM??? With the timing belt, i heard that the VX belt has 1 tooth less??? Which one should i get for this swap?? Also what brand should i use?? OEM HONDA?? Thanks |
Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
From my understanding, you stick with the head gasket/timing belt that matches to your head. I don't claim to be a honda expert.

Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
you have to use the y8 belt.the tooth that's missing is on the z1 cam gear.anyway 88-2000 head gaskets fit.i'm using the 88-91 head gasket.it lowers my compression since i'm boosting on my y7-y8 swap.the 3 layer y8 metal gasket will raise your compression.same with the z6. plus the price z6 and the y8 100 dollars or 88-91 23.95

Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
i bought the 88-91 once
i gotta tell ya i trust metal more than wtv that thing was made of |
Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
Ok, the 88 headgasket is the like paper thing?? that you have to scrape off right?? hahah, i heard that the 3 layer one is better?? If it does raise it, how much?? i dont care if the compression is like 9.8 or something, as long as its in the 9 range, also could i stack two of the 88 gaksets???

As for timing belt, do a search, this has been done before with some trouble, took the guy like 3 belts to find the one that fit. Carl |
Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
OK, i also posted a thread on D-series.org, and one dude said that the belts have different amount of teeth:
VX:103 EX:104 Headgasket i still want the to try and get a lower compression ratio. I guess that i will go ahead and get the EX gasket?? ive heard that they are better, and ill just throw lots of fuel to the motor!! hah |
Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
The ex (z6 or y8 in US) has the thinner headgasket that will raise your compression, the a6 gasket, while not as nice, will lower your compression. The difference is not that much, maybe .1-.2 compression points. Just start a bit richer when tuning than you think, since higher compression is easier to detonate with...

Yea, thats waht i plan on doing, umm, what about aftermarket gaskets??? Like the copper ones, that are thicker??

I believe (don't quote me though) that the d15b7 bottom end is the same as yours...the only difference is in the head. Also, use the timing belt from the y8 head. Be careful when boosting it though, cause your C/R is up there. The d15's have flat top pistons, while the z6's/y8's are dished. Add onto that the combustion chamber is slightly smaller too(better quench, but higher c/r). In my opinion, i would say look into a MLS head gasket, since your c/r is gonna be up around 10.5:1 or so, depending on the gasket.

Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
Yea, im going to use a Cometic MLS head that is like .67mm or i could get higher, because i really want a lower compression. They are priced at around 100 on ebay.
Which car does the B7 come in?? The EG DX?? or CX? I need to find a pic of the VX block, and look at their pistons, the motor has a 9.1:1 C/R stock is what ive read. So Im not sure about the pistons, maybe, i just would think that they are slightly dish, because of the low compression the motor has? The head makes a difference tho! |
Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
d15b7 comes in the eg dx and lx

Re:Headgasket, and Timing belt Turbo Swap
Well today i decided to say ---- it, and going to build up the Y7 i have, all i need is rods, rings, and bearings. Then get the headgasket for that, im not going to ---- with the VX destroyed rings block!! ahha
Im going to get a cheap y8 or thinner gasket, run it N/A for a few months, mess with it, then put rebuilt y7/y8 head in it, and break it in, then put the snail kit on! Definetly going to get a nice thick head gasket for it tho! |
