head lifting?

I have a b18b and I think the head is lifting off the block underboost. I'm only running 7psi, but when I rebuilt the motor I reused the headbolts with a new head gasket. I'm swaping a b16 head, new head gasket and arp head studs onto it soon so i'm not too worried. But everytime I drive the car, I noticed there's oil all over the block comming from just under where the turbo manifold bolts to the head and it's running all down the front of the block.

Would this be for sure sign that the head is lifting? I couldn't think of any other explainations.

if you have pressurized coolant (if its getting bubbles) then youre head is lifting.

How do I tell, take the car for a drive and look in the resevoir?

check to see if your overflow tank is completely filling up...this is a good sign that something may be wrong with your headgasket.

I checked the tank and it's bone dry. Lots of coolent in the rad though.

hmmm doesn't really sound like a headgasket to me if your overflow isn't filling up.

if its a leaky headgasket, your car will overheat if in boost.

Re: head lifting?

There's oil spraying out around where the head meets the block in the front. It's comming up under the head flange for the manifold and I can see it around the top. It looks like a lot of oil, but the level on the dip stick hasn't moved.

Any ideas?

Re: head lifting?

if oil is actually seeping out of the seam between the head and the block, definitely pull the head.

Have the surface checked for flatness, and throw on a new HG.

could be blowby too tho, owned rings.

Re: head lifting?

my bet is the head bolts are stretched and they arent holding the head down enough..

do u ls/vtec head swap and clean the block, see if the problem continues.

also, is the head area around the valve cover dry of oil?

I had the same oil seep but I looked carefully and it was from a dizzy seal :P

Re: head lifting?

Blow-by or a bad pcv system, I had oil all over my engine bay when my pcv was plugged and when my rings bad. including the areas you described. I re-used my stock headbolts 3 times and they held 10 psi with no "headlifting"

Is this always the case?

I ask because my radiator overflow tank has been slowly filling up lately. It has been filling up about an inch a week...but my car has not overheated one time...

I'm preparing myself to do a headgasket in the near future, but my car isn't over heating so I guess it could be something else?

sounds like your head is lifting but the fluid should works it way down the resevoir when it's cool

I had the pcv hooked up for a while, that could be the problem. I have a catch can on it now. I doubt it's blow by, it was a fresh rebuild, only put 5000 kms on it since.

yeah you know my head starts to warp and lift at the same time because of all the power i have in the daewoo lanos. i had to make brackets to hold the head down i am at least making well over a million HP and you know how that goes.
jk
you said your honda tech friend did it what if he put smaller rings on by accendent like for a D16 or a B16 its posssible but unlikly. im just throwing it out there and you can take it or keave it or just throw it right back at me

You would have to be 100% mentally retarded to pull that one off.
