Head gasket - advice needed

I go D14 engine, and will put turbo in it within next two weeks.
What I already got:
Vortech FMU 1:10 (yea, yea.. I kno, AFC would be better.. but...)
in-line fuel pump
hoses for oil already done
Garrett T2 turbo
IC
gauges (air pressure, oil temp and A/F gauge)
SMT5 electronic to retard timings

Anyway.. planning of boosting upto 7-8psi, and engine has compression ratio of 9.2
Do you guys think I need to lower compression range, or will 9.2 be OK? Don't really want to blow engine... so asking for advices/experiences.
If I should lower compression... what would be most psi I could put on stock engine with 9.2 compression?

you'll be fine w/ 9.2:1 w/ 6-8psi. d14?? what year civic is this?

What???
Well the PSI should be fine and the stock head gasket will hold up but you can get a copper gasket if you want. I have seen 15PSI on a all stock motor so you should be good with just 8PSI.

Tnx for info :)

Yes I'm from Europe - Croatia.
Engine is D14A4 (90HP).
I kno many asked why this engine, and not get biggger one and turbo that one... hehe.. cause it's fun :D
Maybe latter I'll get D16 or B16... :)

upgrade to a D16, that's funny.

You should be fine, just take it slow and you'll love the boost.

with that SMT5 you should be able to tune your fuel injectors a bit to....or get bigger injectors and tune it with that..

my friend have installed a turbo on a d14z2 engine 90HP stock
it works fine, there is no Vtec but the turbo kicks ass

1,4L 160HP not bad ;)

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

BTW you have to lower compresion ration with a thicker head gasket or whatever.\
The stock d14 rods are thins like pencil.
I ve seen 2 blown d14 motors on nitrous and one on turbo
soo be carefulll
d14 isnt a good tuning base anyway, its like boosting a 1.3l and having the same perfomance as liglty tuned d16 NA

Lol yeah that counts for hunda's..you haven't seen a turboed suzuki swift running low 13's with stock internals and putting out more than 200 hp on just 13 psi

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

i heard of those swifts... but i ve never seen in action.

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

Bobohc3d, u shure about rods?

I'm planning of pushing ~7psi on it (stock internals, and as most here said original head gasket would do).

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

i'll tell you just one thing from my personal advice.
dont listen to all HMT talks
THey swap engine under 20MIN even with h22 convertions.
They all run under 13sec and they all have stock engine.
It never worked on me.
Put a thicker head gasket. Push more from the turbo. increase torque instead of HP
D14 are unknown in the US
all i can tell you is that its a crap engine.
A swap for a d16 would be nice... but swap from d14 to 16 isnt as easy as they say on the net... and so on and soo on.

good luck ;D

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

lets trade
ill send you one for a zc...
btw d14 size = d16

bambooseven 12-10-2003 06:37 AM

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

still would be cool to have, if i can find a ZC for cheap i might actually consider it. what do you think shipping would be on that?

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

I can shipp you a D13 ;D It's carbed, but yout can do a MPFI swap on it.
And yo Bobohc3d I can get you a ZC if you want...you're in Europe right?...there are a lot of ZC for sale here man and pretty cheap PM me if you seriously want one...but i don't know what to do about shipping.

Hmmm.. now I'm kinda worried ::)
What would u guys suggest would be max PSI for daily driver (remeber tho that I do smetimes drive at WOT for some time on freeways) with stock head gasket, and stock rods, etc on this tiny D14?

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

0.3-0.4 BAR :)
not more... thats my advice

just for egsample.
My friend blow his engine with a NX 50 shot
the AFR was perfect... it was just too much power the engine could handle...

d14 are bad ass, think seriously of doing a swap for a d16z6
thats easy and cheap or even easier go for a d16 non vtec.. plug and play

Nick7 12-13-2003 01:32 PM

Re:Head gasket - advice needed

OK, tnx for advice.. I'll stick with 0.3BAR for beginning.. after lowering CR will head for 0.5BAR.. but think that's it for D14.. dont really wanna blow it up :)
