which head? b16 or b18??

i've got a b16a2 and someone might want to trade heads for a b18c head. should i do this? i've always heard that the b16 head flows better, but i'm not sure that this is true. also, with a b18c head, i could get a b18c shortbloc for a reasonable price and have a b18c for cheap, or would it be just the same if not better to put my b16 head on a b18c block?? let me know what you guys think.

i think gs-r heads are a little different. they dont bolt up to a b16 IM because of the butter fly valves ??

BUT if you can get a b18b SB and a gsr IM u could have a gsr ;)

really?? i thought you could put any b head on any b block?? i don't want to pay for it because he wants 400 for it, i was just gonna trade and then buy the shortblock, and have a gsr, but if i bought the head and the block, i would end up costing me about 800 bucks prolly, which isn't bad, but if i was going to spend that much, i would turbo the b16 (sooner)

you know how the type R manifold is different? I think its the same deal with the b16 where it wont bolt to gsr heads.

b16 bolt to c5 head and viseversa but a neither go on a c1 head due to butterfly valves.

Mind you this is all speculation.

yeah, i know about the i.m.'s being different, i'm just talking about putting the head on the b16 block for now, i know i couldn't use my b16 i.m. (it's an even trade), then sometime down the road, gettin a b18c1 shortblock, i see them go for about 400, then i would have a b18c1 for about 400 bucks, i'm just wondering if it's worth it, or if the heads are basically the same, if that's the case, i won't bother cause my plans are built b20 or ls bottom. i was just wondering if this was another alternative.......

i think the b16 head flows better then c1, but not as good as the c5 head. also. the butterfly valves on the c1 head would require a different ecu or to be removed or block somehow.

IMO, ,get a b18c1 block

so you think i should just keep my b16 head and maybe get a c1 block if anything? or just stick with my original plans and build up an ls or b20 (prolly sleeved, but at leas pinned)?

I would keep the b16 head and get a b18c bottom end. Increaseing your displacement for cheap is hard to do. Then you dont have to deal with the headakes of trying to figure out the sencond valve and what not. depending on the cost of the long block, i would almost go and take the head off and sell it on ebay and get $$$$ and have it prety much pay for the block. But you know, a nice ported and polished b18c head would be nice. Jeff runs a GSR head but i am unsure if its a B17a1 (basically a b16a) or a b18c.

yeah, he's got a b18c1 head, but hey, he got it for free :-\ yeah, i always heard that the b16 head flowed better than a b18 head, i just wasn't sure. you think a b18c block with a b16 head would make more power than an ls block with a b16 head??

thats a good question! what is better anyways? a ls/vtec is b16 head and ls bottom end to get better torque. well with the b16 head and a gsr bottom end you're still getting more torque and a 1.8 displacement so......What is the main difference in the b16 head with a ls bottom or a gsr bottom?? you're still getting 1.8 displacement and more torque but since the gsr is already equipped with vtec....dont you think the gsr would be better? plus, the bad thing about the ls bottom end is that its not made to rev high like the vtec so the bore and stroke on a gsr would be better, right???
