Hi everyone! I'm a new member from Austria (Europe). We have got the Civics 4WD with twin visco differential on the rear axle. I want to keep the 4wd layout so I cannot swap the engine because of the tranny. I heard of bore sizes of 79 mm in D-Series engines made by jgenginedynamics.com. What about a bore size of 89/90 mm? would it be possible to cut down all four cylinders and fabricate new a deck plate with the bigger bore cylinders on it? You would insert the new cylinders from top, which are made of one piece with the deck plate? this would simply be an upside down open deck design...

sorry... just wanted to know, if it would work. you would have a lightweigt engine with a displacement of 2290 ccm (90x90)

u c people....he is from another country....we are in the USA....and honda forgot about the good ole usa when they made honda's....dude has a sohc vtec motor in his ----...we here in america get sucky ass engines in our honda's while all the other country's get good engines many years before we do....i personally think honda should just give us all a b16a and some free limited slip differentials for the hell of it to compensate for all the years of the slow ---- they been feeding us. but thats just my oppinion...lata

AS far as I know the largest pistons stock d-series sleeves can take are 77mm, that is what I have in my ZC.

If you want to put larger pistons in than that, you will need to get the block resleeved, and somehow change the shape of the head, so it will allow a larger piston (quench area)

But honestly if you want displacement, B-series or H-series is the way to go. You wont be able to do anything simple to acheive anything out of a D-series power plant.

Ever consider a turbo :)

Jeff, he said he can't do a swap because of the 4WD tranny.. but thats what he said, it might be possible to custom make some axles or something for a bseries tranny? aaaaaaaaahh 4wd b16 REX

axles wouldnt change anything, he needs to keep the tranny that has the output for the rwd, right?

well, the b-series 4wd tranny is not as strong as the d-series. the propeller shaft is thinner and the rear drive axles too. the b-series 4wd config. uses the "dual-pump" System which transferes max. 50% torque to the rear wheels. the d-series ('92-95 civic and wagon) have a twin-visco differetial on the rear axle (the cheap version of DYC-direct yaw control from ATTS prelude) with dog clutch. torque transfer is max. 80%.
my car is so damn slow, but its funny to beat bigger cars even on wet streets (but only in the 1st gear ;-) ) I think, it would be easier to mate the 4WD gearbox with a F20B/C together... I know, that there are F-Series 4WD gearboxes out there!! :-)
