Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

I have a 90 crx SI and I am swapping in a 90 B18A from a DA. The harness look the same from what I remember. Can I leave the harness on the B and plug it in? I usually use the harness in the car but from what I remember its the same. The car and the engine are in 2 different places so I figured I would just ask.

Thanks
David

Re: Harness swapping?

Nope keep the si harness unless you like cel's

Re: Harness swapping?

What is pinned different if you off the top of your head? I will just use the SI harness.

Re: Harness swapping?

All I know is whenever I switched harness on cars etc I got codes and that was the same chassis but different years for example 88 si harness in 91 si and so forth.

That was enough for me why learn something that is wrong get my drift. Better things to use my brain for.

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Well I just took the A6 out of the crx. It seems I would have to use the integra harness. The integra uses 2 vacuum solenoids mounted to the firewall and a 4 wire plug. The crx uses 1 solenoid on the firewall and one mounted to the intake manifold. See the issue? The 2, 2 wire plugs will not work with the 4 wire plug for the solenoids for the B18A. So what are my options?

Thanks
David.

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

best: remove emmisions equipment (and solenoids)
good: move wires
worstest: fagetabautit

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

How can I just leave them unplugged? won't I get a CEL?

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Um sounds like the map your talking about. You use your stock si map. Trust me I have done my share of ls swaps in crx's you use the stock si hatness

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

No not the map. The crx has one solenoid mounted where the map is. The integra has 2 solenoids mounted where the map is.

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Just did my swap used a b18b block with a B18a head and a OBD1 B18b intake mani and everything plugged in fine, the car only has one idle and the only cel I have is vss but thats becuase i am having trouble getting it to go in, the only think I didn't plug in is the temp sensor that is on the back of the d block and on the thermo housiung on the b18b block and no problems, hope i helped :-\

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Ok Well I guess I will use the single solenoid and leave the other unplugged.

black solenoids may cause a cel during semi cold days and heavy load.
Super cold days its always on. You get an EGR code i believe.

egr? i've never seen a b series motor with the egr valve. I agree with chris, just use the crx harness and you'll be golden. may need to extend some wires but nothing to wild. should be plug and play

91 teg throwing a code 12
its in my driveway as we speak

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

egr code on integras 90-91 were only on auto motors. All 5spd b18's dont have an egr. But if for exmaple an auto pr4-a52 is used than an egr code is expected even on a 5spd motor due to well the ecu doesnt know anybetter its just lookin for that sensor

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Well the guy at the auto electronics place told me that the plug for the alternator is the same but the alternators work differntly, currently my alt is putting out 12 volts enought to keep the car running but not enough to charge the battery...he said he had to swap the voltage regulators (put the d series into the B alt) for it to work properly, anyone ever hear about this before? Just trying to give you a heads up Dave i know you will probably be dealing with the same things i am right now

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

I have 2 B series alternators. They should work fine. The one in my car works for ---- anyway. Chris the engine I have was from an Automatic and had an EGR valve. I swapped the intake manifold to a NON egr type from a 92. I already got the SI harness on the B18 so I'll roll that until I have an issue. I guess I just won't plug in the one plug that went into the solenoid attached to the bottom of my A6 and see what happens. I have a chipped PR4 and I have a chipped P75 and conversion harness. I currently need an LS OBDI distro so I am going to use the PR4 till I can get one.

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

i really dont see any issue's with those dumb purge valves. the only important sensors that'll throw a CEL are the IACV and the IAT. Good luck!

If my ------- engine mounts and shift linkage get here anytime soon I will find out.

P.S. whoever told me I need a Teg throttle cable I think was wrong. I compared it to my SI cable and my SI cable is actually a bit longer and should work fine.

I used the Teg cable and the difference is between where it mounts to the mani and the throttle wheel, I believe they differ there, mine seems kind of loose too but it works fine

Ill see if this ------- tool ever sends my mounts and linkage!!!

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Oh Dave I don't know about the exhaust either, i have a 91 teg mani and it wasn't going to meet up with my stock exhaust so I had to make a test pipe, but i think it might have worked if I had a cat from and integra and not the crx one, if you are boosting it right away that won't matter but give you a heads up, I didn't even think about it before untill i was bolting it up

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

Ok, first thing's first...the 2 solenoids you're talking about, 1 is for the purge canister (just like the stock crx one) and the other is for the fpr. It's a really weird setup...they have the fpr vacuum line controlled through the solenoid somehow. If you check out the vacuum diagrams in the online manuals posted here, it'll show you what i mean. I swapped in my b18a without the solenoids, and just used the solenoid for the purge canister on my dx harness and routed the vacuum lines like a normal si motor and haven't popped any cels yet. About the throttle cable, yes...you have to swap in the dc cable. The main difference is where the cable actually mounts to the intake. The si cable is plenty long enough, but the mount is just too far back on the b-series intake to even bolt it on and have it reach the wheel for your throttle plate.

No problem ;)

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

I also noticed there is a 2 pin sensor on the back of the B18 block that looks like a temp sensor. My A6 doesn't have this. It only has the 2 in the head. So I don't bother with it?

Re: Harness swapping? ***NEW INFO NEED MORE HELP***

i dont think the purge valve is for the fpr, who would do that? i think the second one goes to that thing that attaches to the tbody. which isnt really necessary

Yes the purge valve is inline with the solenoid.

That's what i was wondering too at first...but every b series vtec and non-vtec manual i've looked at all have the same thing. The line comes from the low vacuum source off the throttle body, goes to the 2nd solenoid in line with the evap canister solenoid, and then down to the fpr. Really gay setup if you ask me. Like i said before, i have mine hooked up like a normal si mpfi setup...no codes. Only thing i have is the fluttering idle, and it's probably because i rigged on an obd1 eacv onto an obd0 intake and more than likely has a bad seal due to being held in with only one bolt :P
