H22 auto tensioner

has anyone had trouble with the auto tensioner on the H22? I think mine is going bad because it is making a grinding/whining sound from around the timing belt when it is idling. Im not all that sure that it is the auto tensioner....it could be the water pump?? but something from down there is making a grinding/whining sound and i havent had time to piss with it. jw if any of you have ever expirienced anything like this.

Could also be from the balancer shafts. There should be no noise from the auto tensioner itself, it just sits there applying pressure. Or it could be the bearings in the tensioner pulley starting to wear out.

Knowledge is key. Best bet is to pick up a service manual for the car/motor and read it a few times and keep on searching the net for more info.

h22 auto tensioner's fail very often.
