h-beams are strong rods, your not gonna break one...

i-beams are generally lighter, thus better for NA apps...

actually an I beam is structually strong then an H beam.

You're a damn idiot

then why do car manufactures use I-beam rods?

Re: h beam or i beam

there shaped in an I beam over an h-beam for strength.

yea, im sure auto manufacturers use I beams cause they are stronger.....

i guess thats why they use plastic in stead of steel now too

Re: h beam or i beam

they do. an i beam is stronger. the same same rod would be weaker as a h beam

what do they use on buildings and bridges,

I'm in school for this ----, so I happen to know a little about it. So first off, let me say that your argument that I beams are stronger than H beams, or vice versa, is totally invalid with out other information for a detailed comparison. You cant' just say 'the same rod' and actually know enough to even come close to an accurate estimation. What material are they made out of? What kind of construction are they? Have they been heat treated or not? When you say they are stronger do you mean that if i have an I beam that weighs the same as an H beam, the I beam will withstand larger loads before buckling? What if the H beam is beefed up and weighs 3 times more than the I beam? So be more specific and maybe there can be an actual comparison which will lead to valid information being ------, instead of some information based on wack assumptions

and i'd say an auto maker uses something over a different part because it will save them money, not because its the best part for the application.

I'd use J-beams, because J-beams are mad JDM y0!

Don't bother trying to explain to cloud, he won't believe anything unless he reads it posted by some noob on a forum first :S

And accountants have a huge say in what parts get put on a car. Why didn't all our Hondas have built motors from the factory?
