gettin a crx shell..

im planning on dropping either a A6,Z6, or Y8 in it, and turboing it, it will be completely stripped of EVERYTHING door skeleton dash, everything. the engine will be turbo'd and probably built for turbo, i have about 3000 to spend between me and my friend (this is a strictly track car). im aiming for low 13's to 12's, my friend is building the tranny via MISTABONE's advice. i'll be making the turbo setup and we will be converting to obd1 running uberdata.

now say im getting the car for 300, and i have a y8 and a a6 laying around, which engine should i build, and with what parts, i know the a6 would have a smoother powerband because of no vtec,

so with about 1500 what would you do to the bottom end and the top end, aiming to hit low 13's or 12s, possibly lower. (build the bottom end first)

i need about 1k for the turbo setup, and the extra few 100 for tires, axles, other misc items.

All the little things add up when your building a car. Just a decent set of tires alone are going to run you about $300. I think you would be better off still keeping the car street llegal.

what he said. you always go way overbudget on anything you do, you don't always see costs that you will encounter. I like y8s because the dipstick is on the side, that's hot ----.

definately a good reason to build the y8!

If you fabriacte/port/build everything you may be able to do it on that budget but that is also finding great deals on alot of parts.

---- .. who cars about a smoother powerband? you can have vtec and gain 30hp...

without question you should beable to lay into the 13s on a completely stripped car with a turbo on a y8...

you shouldbeable to get the car down like about 1500lbs w/o driver and stock doors

you will probably want to put a cage in there right away so there is a few hundred gone...yeha you wont need it until 11.99 but you will get there if this is your track only car, or you should atleast becuase then you can ditch your stock seats (~30-40lbs each) with a lighter racing one and you can run a 5pt harness then

so there is like an extra grand right there atleast

you will also end up ditching all the glass and rear hatch and all that ---- for lexan...that ---- isn't exactly cheap for the big sheets

on a fully gutted crx you should be mid 12s with like 250whp...

im lookin for a crx to make into a track only car currently....

i hope you have a lot of fun doing everything

if all that ---- inside is in decent condition you can always make a few bucks for that ----

and if the glass is good you can make quite a bit of buck on the windshield to help pay for the rest of the stuff

lol just making this long ass post makes me want to get a race car :)

damn 3 grand to drop in a crx, that's nice, well 2700, that's still nice. Renr got his car into the 13's with his hatch, i think z6 block y8 head, some work done to the head, hf mani, super 60. blah blah blah. You shoulda picked up his turbo kit, you woulda saved a good chunk of money, unless you fab stuff yourself and get the bends free or dirt cheap.

The Key to the car should be balance, wieght, gearing, maximizing what you have, minimilizing weaknesses. Not peak power output.
Power can do two things, cause stuff to blow up, and loss of traction. =)

Major motor work is ALWAYS the last peice of the puzzle.

Hopefully, we can get something together Scott.

btw nice site here.

Even though this site is based off Honda's & Acuras doesnt mean thats all we talk about here. I think Any Custom FI setup is the ----. DSM/Toyota/VW Whatever... Bring your wealth of knowledge to help others out!
