Default Future of the CRX (planning stage) need some help

OK, well here is what I have so far, 91 CRX Si with a T3 homemade turbo set up, pretty much stock other than that. Here is what I have laying around:

-B18B complete motor with a LS Tranny
-B18B stripped block well just missing rods and pistons
-B18B port and polished head
-T3/T4 turbo

Now my plans were to swap in the complete B18B to get the swap over with and build the other block. The other motor was going to be a LS/Vtec with the T3/T4 bolted on. Here is where I need help...Since I want to boost I was going to put a vtec head on to make the LS breath a little better but with the prices of vtec heads I could invest the money into new cams, spring, and valves on the LS head, couldn't I? Also wondering if I change the crank and rods will the motor rev higher safely? This is going to be my first time building a motor so any help is awesome. Any suggestions even if they are looking in a different direction would be cool. I am just gonna try and use what I had around but I am open to opinions. This is a project car I have a daily driver and my intensions and just to make a car that has some power, i guess I'm looking for some good quarter mile times but mostly for fun, thanks...Matt

if i remember correctly. making your motor rev higher is all upon your valvetrain . dual valve springs would do the job. but i dont see the ls making much power after 7500 without big cams. but i dont know anything

from the single point of view of finance, if you pour that cash into a ls head vs getting a vtec head, i believe the vtec head would hold its value better.(its your money though)

higher revs are directly related to your valve train.

about the crank and rods... im not sure if they the same specs, but any stock vtec component will be superior to its non-vtec counterpart.

to simplify:

vtec=mo betta

i advise to do that ls swap, turbo it, then take your time to build a ls/vtec, then switch motors.

Thanks, so I should just look into a vtec head or even a whole GSR motor? I was planning on building the bottom end so if I went with a GSR crank and some forged pistons and rods I should be cool? What about sleeves, i know very little about building a motor so point me in the right direction, I am going to post the block but should I get it re sleeved also i hear about people bullet profing a block before they do ls vtec, any help is reat, thanks...Matt

i would just do an ls/vtec. a lot cheaper than going out and buying a gsr block and then building it. you should get a b16 head because its probably cheaper than a gsr head and readily available. I would leave the ls crank. i believe putting an gsr crank into an ls is destroking it. but im not sure. plenty of people have made 400+ on stock sleeves. but i would sleeve it to be on the safe side .

^^ good stuff.

resleeving a block is expensive, but then its pretty much bullet proof. if you can, you should

Truth building an ls/vtec isnt that cheap. You just dont buy a b16a head and your done. You need to do the whole conversion belts/gaskets/lines/dowel pins/pumps etc then you need a vtec ecu. A full ls motor is more than enough for just a fun street car. Ls valvetrain is good to 8k been there done that but you will not make any power past 7400 on stock cams/head. A big bore tb and properly ported manifold will shift powerrange slightly 200-300 rpm's.

Thanks for the info, very helpful...So here is the real question is the built LS bottom end going to be as good as a built gsr? Should I waste the money on the LS or just get a GSR. I want to build a motor, money isn't a big factor but still a factor, the more expensive the longer it will take to build. I can get a GSR I know someone who has one but if it is going to be similar to a built Ls then its not worth the extra cost for the block. I want to do it right so I'd rather not waste my time or money on a poor choice, thanks...Matt
