Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

I can't get this god damn bolt off. It's rounded off from past idiots, and vice grips are proving fruitless. I NEED my car to be running by tomorrow, so someone please give me some advice.

---- it. pull the reverse switch out, grab a funnel, and pour 2.x qts of oil in there.

Weld an old wrench to it and beat that bitch with a hammer :6

Haha, that'd work to get it loose, but how to get it the rest of the way off? The wrench wouldn't be able to make a complete rotation.

I'm leaning towards trying to see if the speedo cable hole or the reverse switch will work.

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

tap a smaller closed end wrench on to crack it then take the wrench off and replace old bolt

i have done the reverse switch myself. its actually much easier than trying to get oil in the fill hole, especially if you dont have a pump. the VSS will be a larger hole, and will work fine as well.

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

tiny pipe wrenches work great...rip the vss out and start dumpin

Secondaries 11-13-2007 11:08 PM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

Is there a difference between electrical and cable-driven VSS though? Do they both lead into the transaxle or will I just pour oil all over the case if I try on my cable speedo trans?

Hellbert 11-13-2007 11:11 PM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

there is this gangster ass bolt down on the side of it...you gotta take that sum bitch out then pull the whole mabobber out then WHAMO big ol hole and dump that ---- in

Guy-Fast 11-13-2007 11:27 PM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

the vss leads into the trans

for some reason i get the idea that he was asking if he poured the fluid down in the hole that the actually speedo cable goes in.....idk...maybe not...

Yeah, I was, genius. That's what was suggested. If you had taken the time to read the first post, you'd realize I CAN'T take that gangster ass bolt out. Whoa-bang, trick.

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

get some of the stripped head bolt remover sockets. vatozone sells a set for like $20, along with any other place that sells tools. The are made to cut into the rounded head and lock onto it. Works wonders, and you know you'll use them again. Only bitch is separating the bolt and the socket later

no you remove the whole vss its pretty big and allows easy access to the trans to fill fluid. Nice and easy not on your back. Just starting doing that I spent years filling it in the filling oil no moe.

cable drive speedo, 20 years old, It's not coming out.

88-2000 D series trannys, you can remove the starter and fill thru shift cross shaft access plug hole.

19mm 6 point socket needed

klyph 11-14-2007 05:24 PM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

I would concentrate on getting the filler hole bolt out...

oh yea yea thats how i fill mine, been doin that for a long time. i think he may have thought that you pour the fluid in the speedo cable hole because he asked if it would get all over his case

Mine came right out O0 Took the bolt off and pulled, and it came out with less force than I expected. Filled it up and popped the new axle in, but don't think I got the axle in all the way.. It's leaking oil a drop a second. Going back out for round 2.

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

Well, on further inspection, I did get it all the way in. Did I nick the oil seal surface or something on the transmission? Any way to fix this?

I guess now I'm replacing the oil seal around the axle.

----.

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

yeah replace the seal around the axle. i was going to tell you to weld an old wrench to it then after its loose use a cutting wheel to cut the wrench at the base of the head. looks like you already got it.

Did the same. Frustrating. Autozone stocks the seal and it was around $5.

Bone1 11-16-2007 02:38 AM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

"nicking" the seal means you knocked the spring loose of off the seal.

I will only run Honda seals, seen too many others leak.

I'd post a pic, but photofuckit is down for maintaintass.

That's fucked, cuz Vatozone wants $25.99 for the seal. O'rly wants $11 or so.
Mista Bone, can I just pull the old seal and reinstall it then? Or did knocking the spring loose permanently destroy its sealing capability?

Bone1 11-16-2007 03:34 PM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

you'll ruin the seal pulling it out.

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

Hey bone, I had a question about the seals:
Do you tap em in until they stop, or until they're flush with the case?

Bone1 11-17-2007 12:46 AM

Re: Fucking transaxle fill bolt!

how you do you family?

Outer edge flush.

Welding a wrench to a bolt is a retarded idea.

Just weld an old nut on top of the bolt. Put a socket on the nut. Voila.
