Forged Pistons and Eagle rods

Default Forged Pistons and Eagle rods

I'm looking at getting a set of SRP Forged Pistons. Some questions arose when i was lookin.

1. if i get stock bore, will my cylinders still need to be bored out due to heat expansion?

And with the Eagle Rods, do I need to replace the bearings when the rods are installed?

No and YES

You dont need to bore out your cylinders if youre going with stock bore.

And YES, you should, you need a new set of bearings cuz I bet the old ones are worn out, better safe than sorry, Theyre cheap. I payed $60 Canadian for a set.

If the bearings are good, keep them.

I have 107k+ miles...lol. But is this for CERTAIN, i DO NOT need to bore my cylinders out for FORGED SPR pistons that are stock bore?

Didn't you read that thread where Steve rebuilt that motor? Th bearings were still good, so he kept them. Same thing with the rebuild Jeff recently did. Both of those motors were high mileage too. 107k isn't ----.

Boring isn't necessary since you're using stock bore pistons....dummy. :P I would hone the ---- out of the cylinders though. I'm not exactly sure how the "pros" do bore/hone jobs when using forged pistons. Maybe Jeff has some input on that?

with stock bore pistons why would you need to bore the cylinders? to make them to big...stock bore means stock bore....but you should hone the cylinders

yueah, but forged pistons expand with heat, so you have to compensate for that. I heard mixed opinions, Ima ask jeff

If you are gonna go super mario andretti with the ----, I would say wait until you get the motor apart before you buy the pistons. That way you can see if the cylinders are egg shaped (not likely). Other than that one size over is basically gonna give you a chance to have the cylinders bored out to whatever, so that you get a clean circle, and you can set your piston to wall clearance.

If you're doing this the way I think you are, just get stock bore pistons, and hone the ---- out of it. Honing it a little more will give you a little bit more piston to wall clearance, if that's what you want.

If the bearings are good, measure them in their new homes and use them. If you are mario andretti, buy all new ones and pay to have the exact clearances dialed in. Either way you'll be good.

Kool, cuz more than likley Im gonna take it to the shop and just have them put em in, cuz I dont mess with that kinda ---- :P And by not havin em bored out saves me a ---- ton on downtime and money.
