Flywheel re-surfacing?/Clutch choice

So I have the clutch out of the z6 and man, there wasn't anything left of it.

The flywheel isn't really scored or anything, it just looks like it could use freshening up. Can they be resurfaced, and if so has anyone had a flywheel resurfaced? Or should I spend the extra $$ and just buy a new flywheel? I'd rather just stick with my stock flywheel, as this is a budget build.

As far as clutch selection, I'm probably just going to go with a stg 3 XTD off ebay for $150 shipped. I've heard pretty good things on HMT about them.

I agree I actually have done that with a couple but if your slapping in a 300+clutch 20 bucks to get a fresh clean surface will make everything the way its suppose to be

The local shop charges $27. I got lucky last time I brought one in; they didn't charge me at all. They said it was already pretty flat when I brought it to them and it only took 2 minutes.

Well got it done. The guy charged my $55 bucks which I thought was pretty steep for a resurfacing on a stepped flywheel, but it's the only place in town I can go to. oh well.

$30 is more than fair, your butthole just enlarged by an inch or two.

that would be nice but I have yet to see a shop do it for less than 20 bucks. I just paid 25 and found that to be very fair

Maybe in Norcal, but down here I usually get charged 10-15.

10-15 bucks is a steal for a flywheel resurfacing, especially since you have to remove the 3 dowel pins first and turn both the clutch surface and the pressure plate mounting surface. 10-15 sounds more like a flat flywheel resurfacing.

Way overboard. The mounting surface doesn't wear, why would waste money.

Ya no need to clean anything up except where the disc rides.

around here flat flywheel is $20, stepped is $40, the only place I can find in the fox cities is automotive supply co, most machine shops wont even touch a stepped flywheel.

No, you need to turn the surface that the pressure plate mounts to equal to the amount you remove from the clutch contact surface. If you take material off of the clutch surface only it will place the pressure plate farther from the clutch surface once it is bolted down. Then there is the possibility of it slipping. And since the pressure plate on a D-series flywheel is "keyed" with the dowel pins, those need to be extracted before the surface can be turned.

Yes that is happening, but the amount taken off is so small and the fact that the pressure plate has more travel than it needs anyway.

If the clutch is slipping it won't be because of that.

Well I'm glad it was done correctly rather than take a chance at just turning the clutch surface.
