Finished the mini-me tonight, ticking noise from head!!! VIDEO

Well, we finished the a6/z6 mini-me tonight and it started (on the second try-timing was off by 180). Once the car was started and running there was immediatly a clicking noise from the head. Any ideas what this could be? The video is up, don't mind the car almost dying towards the end, i was just holding the distributor in place and i accidentally turned it a little bit. It is a shitty vid, but you get the point.

was the block good befor u started?
is it a tick or like bang like a hamer hiting a hamer.
could be a spune rod or valve lash

Sounded like a regular 10 year old engine's tick, just 10x louder. Yes the block was good before the mini-me. The head was just freshly rebuilt.

Should have said, rebuilt by a machine shop to OEM specs.

nope, didn't think i needed to. The valves were "set" by the machine shop.

possibly the bearings. pop the oil pan and see if there is any metal shavings from the bearings. Or take apart the cap for the crank and see if you crank is fucked or not

everything in the block is fine. This noise is definately in the head.

Sounds to me a valves or even an exhaust leak.

I'm going to work on the car again tonight, I'll check the valves then. :)

I would man. I got my Z6 head rebuilt by a machine shop too and he made sure to note that I needed to adjust the valves myself. I adjusted my valves to factory but I have one of those damn 59300 Comp cams/Zex cams in it so it's still noisy as hell.

could be the plastic behind the cam gear ;)
doesnt sound like valves to me because it repeats itself very fast

Sounds like lifters if you ask me. Clean the sons of bitches out, or replace them.

I've had luck in the past with different cars quieting down if you switch oil from dino to synthetic too.

Deff. sounds like valve lash in the video IMHO.
