FAILED E-test. Amazing Idle, Horrible 25mp/h. What Would Cause?

So I failed my e-test for the second time today
The car is a 90 Civic dx with a b16a 1st gen with a pr3 ecu

The tests are basically the same, except this time, I used a bit of seafoam, guaranteed to pass bottle of crap and a bit of denatured alcohol

The car runs aparently polution free @ idle, and like a bag of ---- @ 25mp/h

Lemme guess...nOx levels too high. It's a common thing with first gen jdm b16a's, most think it's due to the slightly higher c/r than the usdm versions.

Obviously he'd have to have a cat in order to get it that far :P Cat could be getting old and plugged up though. And the car does have to be completely warmed up for the smog test as well.

well your numbers look like a clusterfuck but from what i can gather i'm assuming that the first number is the limit, and the second is what you had. Nox looks good thankfully so it looks like CO and HC. HC is raw hydrocarbons (unburnt fuel) going into the exhaust, which basically means misfiring. CO is partially burnt fuel and will tell you wether the mixutre is rich or lean. So guess what, you're filthy rich at 25MPH. Obviously there's a number of things that could cause this. Basic maintenance would be a good idea (plugs, wires, inspect ignition system, make sure you have a good spark). Other than that, make sure your O2 sensor is good, and if you have the ability to test your other sensors i'd do that too. Also make sure the engine is mechanically sound (compression and vacuum), and then go from there.

so is my car a gas guzzling pig because of this 02 sensor or what?

My cat is pretty much brand new and was run VERY hot before the test

i didn't say it was the o2 sensor, i said it's a possibility. As they age and get gunked up they tend to be skewed rich because they can't sense the correct ammount of oxygen in the exhaust so they end up making the fuel system rich. That may be one possibility. Any one of your engine management sensors could influence this condition ( aside from tps most likely), but first of all you need to make sure the engine is in good condition. That means compression test and vacuum gauge. Also wouldn't hurt to seafoam, do plugs, wires, and an air filter. New cat is a plus, but remember that too much fuel or too little fuel will kill a cat.

it removes carbon deposits in the engine. Picture listerine for your engine.
