Default Exhaust question

Does anyone here use the Cherry Bomb glass-packed pipe in place of the muffler? Any difference in performance?

They would be just like running a straight pipe instead of the muffler. I wouldn't bother running one. You get what you pay for.

They sound like ---- and looklike ---- under your car and people would make fun of you. Save up for a nice manaflow or something. Thats what I have and they sound and look great.

I have an titanium CF on mine, sounds OK, loud tho, and my buddy threw my old N-1 can on his TSi, its loud as ----, kinda ricey, but his speed makes up for it. His other car is an 87 MK III, no muffler, 3" piping turbo back, sounded sweet as hell....Id say go with the straight piping

I think if you run a quite large (long, large case diameter) glasspack, you will quiet the exhaust down a good amount. You can't expect to put a 16" tube with some holes in it and fiberglass wrapped around it in place of your muffler and have it do a whole lot for absorbing the sound, or mellowing the 'rasp'.

If you design your exhaust well you can make it be as free flowing and as quiet as you want, whether it be with a $750 muffler or with a real long piece of pipe that you littered with holes and wrapped with a screen and wrapped with deadening and welded a can around it.

Oh yea but to attempt to actually answer your question, I did take the stock torn muffler off my 1985 bmw 318i I used to have and replaced it with a $20 18" cherry bomb. It was very raspy and I didn't notice any performance gains, but this shouldn't be expected from a muffler imo.
