exhaust?
 

my muffler rusted off about a month or 2 ago and I've been thinking about making a custom exhaust ever since. Would it be alright to run the exhaust pipe under the gas tank? I'm thinking about running a pipe straight from the header to the rear without any bends, but I've never seen a car with an exhaust pipe anywhere near the gas tank. Is the exhaust that much of a fire hazard that far from the engine? Could I just put some heat shielding and insulation between the exhaust and the gas tank to solve my problem?

i dont think heat is the problem, but actually hitting the tank will be, i mean if it hangs down low and you hit a bump or somthing hard id take the pipe and smash it into your tank screwing stuff up... just 2 bends to clear the tank wont be that bad

I didn't think about it banging the tank. I could put some soft insulation on the bottom of the tank, then a big heat shield on the top of the exhaust and not lower my car. Or just say ---- it and have it come out the side.

well I've been thinking about it and I'll probably just put it out the side under my door later, and just put an extension from where the I sawed off the rusted ass muffler to my RS Type fart can.

mandrels=non local=lots of money. I'm just going to get it ghetto bended right where the cat used to b and have it come out under my door. I won't be too loud because by the time I get this on there it will have a turbo before it.

the best thing that ive had with my crx exhaust is to get 2inch piping from cat back with a stock muffler..sounds awesome with aem cold air intake.

I had my exhaust done with a non-mandrel bender and it came out nice. No crinkles and it looked good.

You could always come straight out of the turbo and exit the bumper. I looked all over for the guy that did this. It didn't look too bad. :-\

I'm not really worrying about what it will look like, but if it's too loud I don't want to be paying for tickets, so the out the bumper idea is gone.
