Engine took a SHIT 2day....

:( Yeah, this engine(D16a6) has right at 250k miles on it so I guess it was a loooong time coming...Valves had started ticking REALLLY bad 2 or 3 days ago and the car was skipping & sputtering bad unless you changed gears over 3K rpms(is this my clutch or could it have been caused by the messed up head??) anyways 2day I'm sitting at a redlight(on my lunchbreak from work, 'bout 12:45pm, middle lane of traffic, BUSYASS I-82 and the ticking turns to tocking, it sounded terrible..finally the car dies, I try to crank it back up but it just makes really messed up clankin' noises, BUT didn't sound like the engine had seized(lol..not that I'd actually know what that would sound like), regardless it wouldn't crank, cars are just piled up behind me(anyone else ever been in this situation??) and it's about uhhh 95 degrees...anywaaaays, I could go on and on with this story, but then I'd be in trouble for the long thread...I already have new(well newer)pistons and cylinder head...where can I get other stuff for rebuild that I might need?? main bearings, rod bearings, main cap(I think that's what it's called) water pump, oil pump, etc???...I don't wanna spend several hundred dollars on an entire rebuild kit...where can I source these parts??..thanx for the help fellas...she put up a hard fight, I just hate she had to ---- in her britches like that...peaaace

at this point youre better off getting a low milage longblock from somebody for a few hundred... its easier and cheaper than rebuilding your already shot engine

The ticking wasn't your valves...you could have done a valve clearance check and set the valves properly.
If the ticking turned into a tocking sound...it's probably your rod bearing...I had that to... one rod let go probably, maybe because you were just idling the thing didn't go thru your block like mine did

I would definately remove the head and inspect it for damage. You can get a low mile D16Y7 for about 300-400 bucks and simply swap the heads. All depends on how much was damaged. I just did this similar swap with mine and got a 00 D16Y7 for 350 with 23,000 miles...

Id definately look at just buying a used motor or long block if you can find one chea enough...

BTW my D16 did that same thing and I was stuck on Hwy 377, I know all about it, also the second time its happened to me...both ended up being rod bearings...

Good luck!!

Are the y7 and y8's really that notoroius for spinning bearings and just not holding up that long? Yeah I know you had a A6 but someone suggested getting a y7 block, and I've hearing that the y7 and y8 have some problems.
