engine not responsive. timing?
 

well i just changed the timing belt on my civic ex d16z6. and i didnt time it yet with a timing gun. but basically whenever i stepped on the gas the engine rpm isnt as responsive as it was before i got the timing belt changed. im just worried that the pistons might be a bit off. help?

yea make sure your cam timing is correct first

I use a paint marker to align the cam + crank gears with the old timing belt, transfer the marks onto the new belt, and then align them with the mark on the gears. ZERO chance of messing up.

Timing belt changes without doing that aren't a big deal if you really know the engine well and have done it a bunch, but when doing a timing belt change on an unfamiliar engine using the old paint marker is a fail safe.

your timing is probably slightly off by a teeth or so. try adjusting the timing by rotating the distributor see if that helps. (turning the distributor back towards the back of the car is advancing and vice versa).

adjusting ig timing doesn`t do anything if the cam timing are off.

Turn and match the crank pully to #1 TDC, look at the cam gear and make sure the 7 o'clock mark on the gear points directly to the 7'oclock mark on the plastc cover. If it is correct, check you ignition timing with a timing light.
