Engine light always on?

I just bought a 1988 honda civic dx, with a 99 mini motor in it, all of the gauges seem to be working properly but the engine light wont come off. Is this because the cpu went from pre-obd to obd 2? What can I do?

thanks
Chris

Re:Engine light always on?

first of all you have to find what code the ecu is sending.. under the pass side where the foot rests lift up the carpent and you will see a metal plate with a glass hole. when you turn the key in the ON pos the light under the glass will flash once, then flash the stored code.

What ECU is it running, Is it a 88-91 Si ECU or the 99 ECU. If it is the Si ECU check the code like he said before and go from there. If you do a search on ECU codes you'll come up with the list, I did before.
