Engine knock?

I got this problem....
I built a sleeved B16, eagle rods, mahle 9:1ish pistons
I had the crank checked for straightnes before assembly
Nothing done to the head except typeR valve springs

I got this motor running a couple days ago
When I crank it SOMETIMES you hear a slight tapping, but not like a valve
its comes and goes usually around 2500i have about 100miles on the motor...revved it w\o boost to about 7000 and the tapping isnt any louder
I use a screwdriver and listen around the motor

I found it the loudest on the corner where the head meets the block next to the vtec solonoid
I can move up till im midway at the valve cover Then its not as loud

Im thinkin it might be piston knock......My friend says I didnt soak my Loss motion assembly with oil when i put the head together and its them, which i didnt so maybe that? i dont know
What you guys think?

yep, sounds like piston slap.. i actually had it on a stock 200k+ mile d16y8

what is your piston to wall gap?

Re: Engine knock?

Not sure about those pistons but old school arias were very loud pistons

Re: Engine knock?

My wisecos are some noisy ----------ers, or it could be my .0035 piston to wall gap.

Re: Engine knock?

Im not shure about the clearance
my friend says it was loose clearances since we're gonna boost the ---- out of it
It hasnt been any worse yet....pushin 180 miles on it so far...once the car is warm its VERY faint tap
sometimes not even doing it........

Im paranoid as ----.spent allota money on this thing I keep thinkin its the rod

Re: Engine knock?

Drain your oil and look for sparkles

Re: Engine knock?

No sparkles :) I changed my loss motions and it completely went away
So now that I solved my problem Im going to put about 100 more miles on it then start boosting it
5psi at a time...to let it get broke in real nice like

Re: Engine knock?

Your going to need to run one of my 74mm throttle bodies, spacers on that motor :y

Re: Engine knock?

My friend gave me his 70mm blox its cheap but it works and im broke
