Engine bay room in CRX

So ummm... yes... Im swapping a B18b LS/Vtec w/ a HX-35 into a '89 CRX Si. Ummm so, theres not like a lot of room in there.... at all. Anyone have a similiar setup with pictures of the engine bay and some tricks you used to get it all to fit?

the engine will fit. I even seen H motors in CRX. You just need the right mounts. Hasport mounts are perfect and leaves room for the hood to close. Its just a matter of using the right mounts. Advice: Do not get/use cheapo mounts from ebay. Ebay Mounts = no hood clearance = Ghey!

I have Hasport mounts, and theres a B16a in the CRX now. Im talking about clearance for the turbo kit.

You'll need a half-sized radiator, possibly traction bars to clear the downpipe.

Re: Engine bay room in CRX

wow, I knew it was gonna be tight D: You have to get the Sawz-all out? Looks like you have the same turbo mani as me, so thats reassuring. What are you using to support the rad?

Re: Engine bay room in CRX

My rad is held down by gravity and in place with stiff aftermarket rad hoses. I notched the frame so it would sit lower. It would be easy to make brackets to hold it in place anyways.

I have an integra with a B18b LS block w/ GSR pistons/crank. I also have an all-motor CRX with a B16a that I just picked up. I'm swapping the B18 bottom end into the CRX with the GSR head thats on the B16 currently. I'm turboing that setup. And, when looking at the clearance with the b16 in the CRX, I can tell my turbo swap is not going to have much room. Still confused?

Re: Engine bay room in CRX

it wont be too bad. i used a 92+ rad. and i chopped off the stock rad mounts, and notched into the rad support about a 1/2 inch (the length of the 92+ rad.) then welded mounting tabs down about 2 inches lower than stock, used a slim fan and the stock cross member, and everything fit just fine, even the downpipe (this is a b16 crx) the one thing that sucked was i had to notch out the cross member so the lower rad hose would be able to get down low enough to clamp onto the radiator, this is where a set of traction bars would be great, no chopping anything up, or welding new mounts, plus you get less wheel hop, its doable w/o them but if you got the $$$ buy traction bars, because you''ll see just how how much wheel hop a fwd car have with a boosted b series in a crx, trust me its terrible.....

Thank you. I do plan on buying a set of traction bars. I just don't want to spend the $450 on Full-Race D: Hopefully JK's revision on their Traction Bars will make theirs a bit safer. Do you have pics of your setup? I have a half radiator I can pull of the integra, I just need to make new mounting brackets, correct?

JK's traction bars should have the mounts already tabbed on them for the radiator. And you're probably gonna have to ditch the front bumper support to fit some things in there, or at least modify it or the front end metal. If you have the same setup as the pics posted, I'd say try and point the compressor housing toward the passenger side with the outlet facing down or angled out.
