Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
This is the way I have the master cutoff switch routed right now. Electric ---- makes my head hurt.
I need to know where I'm missing any fuses that I should or shouldn't have and the sizes so I don't burn the car to the ground. Also, what size fuses do people generally use on 200w amplifiers? http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/3736/wiringkb6.jpg |
Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
Oh, and I do have a fuse holder wired in between the relay and battery, but I'm not sure if 20A is good or...

Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
This a kill switch for the fuel pump?
Try this diagram, no extra fuses needed. http://www.glue.umd.edu/~cmgreen/Turbo/fuelcutrelay.JPG for simplicity you can ignore relay 2 and all the wires connected to it. It's only needed if you run a turbo timer, or want the added reliability of 2 relays. This splices into the fuel pump power line between the main relay and pump. Since it's using an already fused line you don't need to add any extra fuses. The relay consumes negligible power to operate. For 200W amp: 200/12 = 17 so I'd go with a 20 or 25 Amp fuse. Slow blow to handle momentary max power demands. |
Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
My diagram is for the master cutoff switch on the back bumper, not just the fuel pump. The cutoff needs to disable the whole car, which is why the battery and alternator are on the same side of the switch, I'm just not sure if I need a fuse between the direct power to the alternator

Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
So... All you need to do is kill the ground to the entire car with the cut off switch. If you're switching the positive side, it's going to be sort of like putting the battery wires on backwards every time you turn the switch.

Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
Just have the switch INLINE with the hot wire right off the battery BEFORE it goes to anything else.
Like interupting it if you will nig. The whole iddea is to have the entire car go electrically dead when its switched off.... Like thizzzzz http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...c/Untitled.jpg |

The true meaning of getting fucken PWNED is when I correct someone in an electrical thread. This is why electrical minded people were invited.

Funny thing is it takes me to own me... I can live with that. ---- A kill swich. A trick bitch, and a ho snitch. :-* african american.... |

Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
you kill the fuel pump so if a line busts you dont have gas all over the place itching to start a fire

So the relay is to kill the engine. Is it not better to cut spark instead of fuel? |
Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
200w amplifier should be fine with a 30 amp fuse. thats probably overkill
i have a 1000w amp with 4gauge wiring and use a 80 amp fuse. |
Re: Electrical Minded People- I'm a dork.
You must have the switch connected to the alternator as well as the battery. Just switching off the battery would result in a huge voltage spike that might destroy some things in the car. |
