Electric vs. Mechanical gauges?

Electric vs. Mechanical gauges?
I have a mechanical boost gauge with a hard vacuum line that need to be run through the firewall. I was wondering if there is a problem with these gauges in reliability (provided everything is hooked up right) vs. a eletronic gauge with a sender unit.

(as far as i know) the only diff is that with the electrical you keep all the dirty stuff (oil,fuel,boost or whatever) outside the cabin.
however, i had a mechanical oil and a elctrical oil and i found the mechanical to be better.
only if your running a fuel press gauge, then get elctrical, or your ---- will smell like a gas station 24/7

there is an electronic boost gauge and its like $200. The mechanical gauges have a bit of a delay but I like mechanical gauges better becuase the sending units will never break (there is none) And if everything is run properly they'll never leak. Plus they're cheaper and sometimes look better (Autometer offers the oil pressure in full sweep only with the mechanical gauge)

Your NEVER supposed to run a mechanical fuel pressure gauge inside the car. Thats why the mechanical FPG from Autometer says "Not for inside the car" right on the actual gauge.

My next question is, I got a hard line hose kit to run my VDO gauge. But do I need to drill a hole in the intake manifold to thread this in? or can I rig up some sort of T fitting off another vacuum line? How do you guys have your boost gauges hooked up?
